Hispanics Against Immigration Hearings

Hispanic leaders said Friday that Republican plans to hold national hearings on an immigration bill are a stall tactic aimed at delaying immigration reform and attracting more votes for the GOP this fall.

Latinos do not pose a threat to the government and should be valued for their economic contributions, said Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers of America with labor leader Cesar Chavez.

"We have to let people know what the truth is. This is a distraction," Huerta said.

House Republican leaders scheduled the hearings to get feedback on a Senate-passed bill that would offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.

Speakers said Friday that the measure is far from perfect but still better than the one offered by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., which would have subjected those in the country illegally to felony prosecution.

On Wednesday, Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean warned that Republicans were using "immigrant bashing and scapegoating" to seek votes in the November election.

So then why did Latinos take to the streets a few months ago in a pathetic effort to shut down our economy?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.
This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.
But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English- Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian- Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic.
The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American.

"Latinos do not pose a threat to the government and should be valued for their economic contributions, said Dolores Huerta, .."

And you don't mention Asians, Africans, Europeans and Australians? Don't they have value?

Delores, you're a racist piece of garbage.

They are afraid that the truth will come out.

That's exactly it. They want to keep all the communication between the elected officials and their open border special interest groups. The voters could really screw things up for the open borders lobby.

If I was Congressman Ed Royce, I would have La Raza and MEChA on the hearing roster to explain to the public the reasons why they support unrestricted illegal immigration. I will have my popcorn ready and watch La Raza and MEChA bury themselves.

They are correct. There is a bill passed in the House and one in the Senate. At this point the 2 chambers of Congress should be hammering out a compromise bill. Instead Hastert has refused to appoint the conference committee members. He is hoping hearings will persuade Congressmen to hold fast for the House bill.

Hastert shouldn't have to convince anyone. The House bill has already passed. Obviously he can't keep the Senate bill from passing if the House is allowed to vote on it. Hastert will fail to change the vote if he hasn't secured the votes by now. Both bills are doomed to die in a conference that never met. Maybe we'll get immigration reform next year.

"Why do the Dems and the open border crowd against national hearings?"

Because they want to get it done before anyone realizes how terrible this bill is. The Republicans who signed off on it in the Senate are gonna look pretty stupid.

The House isn't the problem. The Senate has not sent its bill over yet. It must be changed to remove the revenue portion of it since the Senate does not have that authority. The ball is in the Senate's court.

What a pant load. ANYONE that is in this country illegally poses a threat and should be sent back to their home country post-haste.

The pro illegal immigrant lobby are afraid that their ideas will be exposed as fraudulent by the hearings. And the Senate bill will be exposed as fraudulent by the hearings

The House Hearing will politically skewer the Senate for the giveaways and unknown goodies to be showered on the illegal aliens. I'm buying extra popcorn.
