CHICAGO, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- As more foreign auto manufacturers open assembly plants in the U.S., the notion of "buying American" has taken on new meaning. With the 4th of July Holiday upon us, Cars.com has created the American Made Index to help consumers identify the top ten vehicles that are truly the most American in terms of their parts, where they're produced and that are popular with U.S. buyers. As expected, many traditional American manufacturers have made the top ten; however, several Toyota vehicles including the Toyota Camry, Camry Solara and the Siena also made the top ten.

Foreigners have one up with their non union plants.
Will unions at domestics finally adapt go and catch up with these more productive "freelancers".

Perhaps the UAW should look into changing their slogan from Working Together to Not Working Together, because the union will have to make consessions or G.M., Ford and Chrysler will go out of business.

Not Chrysler, they are foreign owned and can easily pull production from the US when they need to. Also, they can open new plants that are non-union quite easily.

I looked at a brand new Acura TSX today. I'm not sure what to think. It sure does look like a Honda Accord inside and out (except for a couple of inches off the back).

I've never had an Acura and am not sure what I would be missing with the Accord. Can you enlighten me?

You are right, Chrysler is a German company which has been able to succeed in spite of the German labor environment. However, G.M. and Ford are also multinational companies and the union would make the U.S. production would disappear.

How about if the Union just disappears? Wouldn't that be better. Make every state a right to work state and end the Union's ability to continue with pedling influence for jobs, nepatism, underhanded dealings with the carmakers, etc. etc. etc.

"Economic patriotism" is a load of garbage. It uses the symbols and language of patriotism to get people to buy substandard products that cost too much. Patriotism is fine; using the language of patriotism to justify and subsidize laziness is not.

Here's an idea: build better cars and charge less for them.

If you are waiting for a union to "adapt" to anything besides showing more of their pinko/socialist basis for their existence, you'll be waiting a long time.

I love American cars, but if it requires the deaths of the "Big Two" American manufacturers to bust the UAW, so be it. If the workers hadn't been abused in the early days of the industry, and if the unions had not used their political leverage to eliminate Right to Work Laws, we wouldn't be in this mess. Of course, a HS dropout would have no chance of making $125K/year tightening a bolt repeatedly, but.....

Many "American Made" products are now simply assembled from foreign parts.

If they did this for other goods like John Deere tractors and Boeing 787's, Americans would learn a lot.

Actually the profits go to the stockholders, wherever they are. Toyota is sold on the NYSE. Go out and buy yourself a piece of the action.
