If it doesn't fly with any American bishops they too should be excommunicated.

I have some disagreements with Catholic theology (chiefly, the praying to saints and the belief that protestants are not actually part of the body of Christ) but I'm glad to see that they are standing up for what's right. Whatever disagreements I may have with them, the RCC almost always takes the right stand and does so publicly without apology. We need more of that in this world.

Not loving and compassionate enough for them, much less inclusive and tolerant and diverse and so on. Better to "enter into dialog" with the wayward politicos . . . and be sure to let them get in a few photo ops receiving communion from the hand of the papal legate. Great for the campaign lit, you know.

Well done! Speaking the truth to power is precisely where the Vatican needs to be. Excellent news. Now if only some of these ghouls would listen.

Prof Galli likened the Vatican to the Taliban

Except that, you know, the Vatican doesn't currently KILL people who disagree with them.

and added: "I can bear excommunication. I was raised as a Catholic, I share Catholic values, but I am able to make my own judgment on some issues and I do not need to be told by the Church what to do or to think."

This poor guy sounds like he hasn't been Catholic for a very long time.

Why don't they start with pedophile priests and the priests who break American laws by harboring illegals? Or do them all at the same time?

If "Destroying human embryos is equivalent to an abortion. It is the same thing" like he claiims then why isn't the Church making the same threat against politicians who support abortion?

I'm not sure I believe anything they say. They appear to be best friends with Kennedy and Kerry. They tolerate pedophile priests. There recently was another pedophile priest in chicago who was being sheltered by the Church while abusing other little boys. Kennedy and Kerry support stem cell research and want it funded. I like the new Pope and I am still hoping that the Church will stop being afraid of the Kennedys. If they don't enforce adherence to the tenets of the Church, then the Church will continue to lose its young people who can see right through the hypocrisy.

"Excommunication will be applied to the women, doctors and researchers who eliminate embryos [and to the] politicians that approve the law," he said in an interview with Famiglia Christiana, an official Vatican magazine.

Excellent! Now what about abortion?

BTW, I wasn't intending to step on toes when speaking of RCC theology, I was just stating some observations and receving some feedback. I know that *some* catholics have told me that they think the RCC is the only valid church, but as I've said before, far more have told me that's not the case. (I guess this one is somewhat hot button for me, as when I was young I was brainwashed into a cult calling itself a church that very bluntly said it was the only true church. As I've said, I know now that the teaching of the RCC doesn't state that. Fortunately, I got out of that cult and into authentic Christianity). I consider my RC brothers and sisters in Christ to be, well, my brothers and sisters in Christ. We don't have to agree on every point of theology. We agree on the ones though that make us Christians: that God sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and that by no other name can we receive the gift of eternal life. Compared to that, everything else pales to insignificance.

When Ratzinger gave that speech about the 'dictatorship of relativism' I knew he was going to be a good Pope. We need more people like that in this world. I wish every church leader that cared about the faith would take the same stand.

Isn't there something stronger than simple excommunication? Interdicts, anathemas, etc?

Not sure, but I excommunicated, I mean extricated, myself from the catholic church years ago.

As a recovering catholic, my opinion is that it is a cult.

Kick 'em out. They don't like they rules, they can go join some other church. The Unitarians sound like their style. Or maybe they can see if the Muslims will take them. There's no exit for Muslim apostasy, save through the sword, they should be warned.

Flush Ted Kennedy from the Church too. Politicians that endorse abortion should NOT be allowed to call themselves Catholics.

The scientists should just leave since they don't want them. Why complain? Stop supporting the catholic church and giving them money. Encourage other family and friends to leave the catholic church. Especially the women who disagree with the church on women priests. Why do they constantly complain? Just leave the church. The church needs you more than the other way around. The Catholic church continues to lose members in almost all developed countries and is trying to get new members from the third world. Yep good luck with that LOL

Guess all the pro-abortion Democrat Catholics will have to forego a Catholic burial (Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, McKulski et al). Wanna place a bet whether their American bishops follow this ruling?
