MEXICAN ELECTIONS - Will America's Neighbor Lurch to the Left
DER SPIEGEL ^ | June 29, 2006 | Jens Glüsing

Posted on 06/29/2006 9:05:05 PM PDT by Atlantic Bridge

Mexico's upcoming presidential elections could mark yet another step in the region's shift to the left, as old school populist candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador vies for the country's highest office. For Mexico's powerful neighbor to the north, the prospect of having a left-leaning, nationalist caudillo running the country poses a nightmare scenario.

Some people just need to learn the hardway. Let their economies slowly grind to a halt and collapse. Let them all turn into poverty stricken abysses. Its not like their is volumes of history not displaying what communism and socialism does to societies and people's livelyhoods.
They have all the tools in place to have successful economies based on capitalism, but if they want to choose the path to economic destruction and corrupt governments led by drug smugglers and criminals, let them learn the hardway.

Start assassinating all the drug lords influencing the governments of those countries and things will get better.

Mexico won't go to the left. At least I don't think they won't. Mexicans are very very conservative. They are distrustful of the government, and they are strong Catholics. I really don't think they'll go leftist.

Mexico will likely turn left. And then the Reconquista education will go into high gear. Imagine the numbers of hard working people who do the jobs Americans won't do who will cross the border then?

Or will all these lovey-dovey plans of one world, CFR B.S. go down the drain?

BE VERY AFRAID IF WE ARE STILL FRIENDS WITH MEXICO, AND CURRENT PLANS GO UNCHANGED AND UNINTERRUPTED IF MEXICO MAKES A TURN TO THE LEFT!!!

I disagree.
They have NO idea what the left has in store for them.

Mexicans voted in Fox to fix the coruption of the previous years, and got nowhere. Now they will vote for anyone who promises real change!

Murtha's half right...We have the means to win this thing...If we're going to fight a war, let's win it...If we're going to continue to tip toe thru the tulips like we are now doing, let's get our kids the he** out of there...ASAP...If they have to die, let them die with honor...

Actually, Venuzeula and Bolivia are the countries with a chavez and chavez clone and the chavez clone in Peru was defeated.

The others mentioned here such as Brzzil and Chile may have left wing govts. But they are more moderate and not the nutball chavez cult of personality kind.

That siad I have noticed the American and European left wing mainstream press are really rooting for a Oblador win, but what else is new they always root for the lefty.

Hope they are proven wrong once again.

The problem might be that the "hard way" is not in the interest of the United States. If the South Americans collapse in moronic socialism, North America will loose its trade partners due to their collective inablillity as a outcome of their economical and political experiments. Besides of that the number of illegal immigrants into the US will grow to no end. Since America is a democracy I doubt that really hard means will be used to deal with this influx.

The election has already been decided. That is how Mexico operates.

They will have a mock election then announce the results on July 3

You don't think there would be a real election do you ?

and yes.....the socialist trend of all the world is frightening.....The USA is no exception, the Bush admin is more liberal than JFK was,but better than the alternative

then there is ;

expanded public domain abuse

illegal alien amnesty

perversion of the constitution by the supreme court

extreme taxation increasing exponentially

government expansion like a blowfish

then there are rumors of an AU (just like the EU) being planned, but that is just whacko conspiracy stuff,(unless, maybe, the US economy fails)

Unfortunately socialism and Catholicism are not entirely antithetical in Latin America.

The Marxists have done a good job of infiltrating the Catholic church and turning a force for good into a force for evil.

Mexico is no exception. It has a long history of hard core socialism. Some of its most famous artists (such as Diego Rivera)were overt Communists.

The lowest classes favor the idea of someone else giving them a handout -- even if they themselves are working -- it just seems right to them. Hence the great danger as these types have invaded America by the millions.

Mexicans are very very conservative.

Maybe the ones in your neighborhood, but watching in person over 50,000 Mexicans marching here in San Diego with their Che t-shirts, and other Marxist signs, etc.
showing their true colors.
Their Aztlan web site is full of both hate for America and Israel and thought we deserved 9/11.
Living 15 miles north of Mexico gives you another view of things.

Mexico won't go to the left. At least I don't think they won't.

Mexico went left 90 years ago.

Mexicans are very very conservative.

You obviously have never witnessed Border Politics, they vote for whoever offers the most handouts.

They are distrustful of the government,

They are distrustful of everyone, even each other.

and they are strong Catholics.

Only when it benefits them, most are secular.

I really don't think they'll go leftist.

As I said they already have, the question is how far left will they go.

The answer to the question that began this thread:
Unfortunately, yes. Lopez Obrador will win. The "mob" is large enough in Mexico to elect him. Also, Calderon has been prohibited from running sufficiently tough ads that might get through to the idiots. Also, he does not strike me as a personally compelling candidate. Prepare for some very, very bad news for Mexico and the USA this Fourth of July weekend.

Yes it does, it is one of those, "if I have to explain, you wouldn't understand," things, isn't it?

Precisely when did any of these countries not have a socialist government. The closest any of them have come to being free market is Mexico's Fox. Who in this country would be considered a flaming liberal. The simple fact of the mater is that they are, have been, and always will be socialist. Which means we can safely ignore them until some miracle makes them a military threat, at which time we can destroy them.
