Rita Cosby is losing her year-old MSNBC show and will get her own specials unit for the cable channel effective July 10.
The shuffle, which MSNBC announced Thursday, is the first big move of Dan Abrams' three-week tenure as MSNBC's general manager.
"Rita Cosby: Live and Direct," which has been telecast at 10 p.m. (ET) weeknights and repeated at 1 a.m. (ET) since late spring, will be replaced by taped documentary programming, under the familiar label of "MSNBC Investigates." Ms. Cosby will serve as the primary anchor of "Investigates," which has been led by various rotating anchors over years. "Investigates" also will run at 11 p.m.
Joe Scarborough's "Scarborough Country" will remain at 9 p.m. weeknights.
"The Situation With Tucker Carlson" will move into the 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. timeslots that have been the home of "The Abrams Report," the legal-issues and crime show that Mr. Abrams hosted prior to his promotion.
Ms. Cosby left Fox News Channel last year to host her weeknight show. In June, "Rita Cosby" averaged 233,000 viewers, 93,000 of them in the core news demo of 25 to 54, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. That's down from her first month on the air, August 2005, when she averaged 398,000 viewers, 146,000 of them in the demo.
In addition to being down since last year, "Rita Cosby" has been losing lead-in from "Scarborough Country," which averaged 319,000 viewers, 109,000 of them in the demo, in June
MSNBC did give Bill Press and Pat Buchanan their own show. Your comment proves no one watched it not even you.
And has an a$$ 3 axehandles wide.
Juliet Huddy and Mike Jerrick have been doing so well in the ratings on Dayside that when Linda Vester comes back, it won't be on that show.
Juliet and Mike were replaced on Fox and Friends Weekend by Alisyn Camerota and Kiran Chetry, and the chemistry of that show is good as well.
My guess is that when LV comes back, she will do updates or perhaps field work (kind of like what Laurie Dhue does). She might get a regular show in the afternoon or evening on weekends, but it won't be Dayside.
I believe the name of that dead racoon show is Geraldo at Large.
-and I QUIT watching Dayside when they came on. I loved LINDA VESTER !! She should replace Greta. Prime time maybe.......NOT weekend nothings like Laurie Dhue.
Lord, I'm praying for the cancellation of "Hardball" or at least make Chrissy Matthews take on a co-anchor, like Ann Coulter.
For a brief period, Linda hosted Paula Zahn's show after Zahn split for CNN, and Fox hadn't lured Greta away yet. I thought she did a good job.
But Greta won't be displaced, her show gets good ratings.
Linda Vester has a brain, unlike Juliet Huddy.....I tuned in daily when Linda was on.......even waited till one to eat lunch while I watched.
Juliet definitely isn't on TV for her brain.
Thanks for the laugh
Is is my imagination or did Rita Cosby's voice get huskier when she moved from FOX to PSMSNBC? She's a female version of Geraldo.
They must be desperate to put Dan Abrams in charge...
When it came to reporting on the Duke lacrosse scandal, Abrams did a good job. The problems was that he had guests on his show who babbled and either was ill informed or spread disinformation.
Who's next? Taking predictions here.
Olbermann goes to CNN, Matthews goes to CNN, bin Laden goes to CNN, Al Gore goes to the weather channel, Aruba goes to Court TV, Smith disappearance goes to unsolved mysteries, Greta takes CIA interrogation position.
she sounds like she has smoked 4 packs a day. I hope she is gone for good.
Maybe Rita should have Juanita Broderick's FULL interview....the one the public never got a chance to see...
Linda Vester is downright brilliant. I wish Fox would get her back already. I also wish they'd make more use of John Gibson and Brit Hume -- they're both underused. But at least Fox News (as opposed to MSNBC) has talent to underuse.
