President Bush and Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a press conference (text and video here) at the White House to discuss the war on terror, defending freedom and democracy, promoting regional security and prosperity in Asia (including North Korea), and enhancing closer cooperation on global economic issues (including Japan now agreeing to open its markets to US beef). This is Koizumi's farewell visit, as he steps down from his position as Prime Minister in September.
President and Mrs. Bush will host an official dinner tonight for the Prime Minister.
Secretary of State Rice continues her G8 Foreign Minister Summit visit in Moscow, before a July 15-17 summit of G8 leaders, to be held in St. Petersburg and hosted for the first time by Russian President Putin.
The US Supreme Court issued its ruling on the use of Guantanamo Bay. Bush told reporters Thursday that he would like to work with Congress to determine whether passing legislation setting up military tribunals is a valid option. Bush said, "The American people need to know this ruling, as I understand it, won't cause killers to be put out on the street. I was told this was not going to be the case one thing I'm not going to do is jeopardize the safety of the American people."
Twins' News WaPo gossip column: Jenna Bush is reportedly going to take a teaching job in Latin America, potentially leaving around the end of summer. (Barbara recently moved to Manhattan, where she has a job in education programming at Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.)
... this looks like "Cheesy Movie Elvis", from the early/mid 60s ...
... And this is "Vegas Elvis" from the 70s ...
But Koizumi looks almost the same in the top photo as he does now ... so I'm going to say it's photoshopped. (A good photoshop, though :)
I don't know how some people can do that ...
Hi, EG! Yep, another toaster (jealous? ;)
How cruel... Just don't understand how anyone could do that. :(
Did you hear? I'm the proud co-owner of two bunnies and one guinea pig/
Do you or anyone else have a link to the official guest list and is the dinner on C-Span?
BUT the shadows, light direction, and reflection in the desktop all are consistent with it being a real photo.
So I join you in your hmmmmmm...
NNA has been here on this site since the late 1960's, and there have been a lot of animals rescued off the campus through the years. Mostly cats, but a few dogs too. Who knows how many were never rescued, though, and wound up the way the kittens would have. Tossed away, alive, in the trash.
With most of the company moving to Tennessee in two weeks, I think of this rescue as one last little triumph of the heart before the place shuts down.
It looks real to me and Zumi looks a lot younger.
By the way, why is Jenna in the news? I haven't read much news today.
I"m so jealous..... I might start a riot and go looting for toasters. You think it's safe to go to New Orleans?
That's great, Emily. Bunnies and guinea pigs can make great pets. When I was at the vet last week with the kittens to get their first shots, a woman had a young skunk she had rescued. It was a cute little thing. (No, it didn't smell.) I petted it. First time I ever got to pet a skunk.
If it's Photoshopped, it's an excellent job.
Re Jenna, she's taking a teaching job in Latin America. Don't know which country. She quit the job she's had for the past year or so. Two WaPo shrews wrote the most catty column about it today. Called the President's kids "spawn." Ugh!
They are jealous because the Bush daughters are beautiful inside and out.
I thought (hoped) maybe she was engaged and we could see a White House wedding. Who would get to do that thread???
LOL! I don't think the NO Walmarts have re-stocked their toaster shelves yet :)
I thought you won a toaster a few weeks ago ...
toaster winner - what would you like?
Love that first photo
I wish I had that guy's hair....Actually, I wish I had any hair.
After closer inpection, I think the only photoshopped area is Koizumi's head--someone stuck his head on another person's body. The lighting on his head is brighter than the rest of the photo.
Hi, Snugs :)
