President Bush and Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a press conference (text and video here) at the White House to discuss the war on terror, defending freedom and democracy, promoting regional security and prosperity in Asia (including North Korea), and enhancing closer cooperation on global economic issues (including Japan now agreeing to open its markets to US beef). This is Koizumi's farewell visit, as he steps down from his position as Prime Minister in September.
President and Mrs. Bush will host an official dinner tonight for the Prime Minister.
Secretary of State Rice continues her G8 Foreign Minister Summit visit in Moscow, before a July 15-17 summit of G8 leaders, to be held in St. Petersburg and hosted for the first time by Russian President Putin.
The US Supreme Court issued its ruling on the use of Guantanamo Bay. Bush told reporters Thursday that he would like to work with Congress to determine whether passing legislation setting up military tribunals is a valid option. Bush said, "The American people need to know this ruling, as I understand it, won't cause killers to be put out on the street. I was told this was not going to be the case one thing I'm not going to do is jeopardize the safety of the American people."
Twins' News WaPo gossip column: Jenna Bush is reportedly going to take a teaching job in Latin America, potentially leaving around the end of summer. (Barbara recently moved to Manhattan, where she has a job in education programming at Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.)
I don't know what it was about Conway doing that Miss-us-uh-Wiggggins but it was another one of my all-time faves.
And watching Carol parade into his office with her HIGH heels and that padded derriere, huge wig, tight skirt, and steno book ... mercy.
LOL
A pain I know all too well :-/
I am developing a condition known as "toaster envy." Who could I go to help me with this psychological problem?
You could look at it a different way--those of us with so many toasters are the ones who have the problems. You who have few or no toasters are obviously normal and don't obsess about such things :)

We are soooooooo sick...:(
Some of us do. It's hard to talk about it, though. So few would understand.
THANK YOU for posting/hosting such an AWESOME DOSE tonight -- such incredible photos of a GREAT President, his beautiful First Lady, and their good friend (who just happens to be yet another world leader who literally GUSHES about his close relationship with our Gary Cooper-esque president!)

BUSH'S DECENCY HIGHLIGHTS DEMOCRATS INCIVILITY
[This title says it all!]
By Seth Swirsky
One of the first things George W. Bush did after his inauguration on January, 2001, was invite Senator Edward M. Kennedy - along with his entire family - to the White House for a special screening of "13 Days," the hagiographic dramatization of Kennedy's brothers John and Robert's handling of the Cuban Missile Crises. Bush, famous for his bipartisan outreach during his eight years as governor of Texas (where he garnered 69 percent of the votes in his 1998 reelection), was beginning his presidency by reaching out again.
The symbolism could not have been more obvious. With the newly elected "compassionate conservative" hosting the aging lion of liberalism, Bush was keeping a campaign promise to be a "uniter, not a divider" and taking the first step to, as he promised, "return dignity" to the office.
. . . While Kennedy had every right to voice his passionate dissent of the war, his incivility toward the president stood in stark contrast to Mr. Bush's high-mindedness. When asked to respond to Senator Kennedy's no-holds-barred, no-proof-required attack, President Bush said, "I don't think we're serving our nation well by allowing the discourse to become so uncivil." The styles could not be more obvious: IT WAS CLASS VERSUS CRASS.

Just a few weeks ago, the Democrats were celebrating the probability that the President's JA ratings would slide into the 20s for the remainder of his tenure. Instead, they must now face the REALITY that the President is STRONGLY supported by his BASE (79% - 88%, depending on the poll) and remains the strongest, most effective force in Washington and the world!
[FYI: If the MSM pollsters would use REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES, the President's JA rating would soon reach the 50% mark! . . . Of course, this will never happen so we should instead focus on truly important outcomes: MAINTAINING OUR CONGRESSIONAL MAJORITIES and WINNING THE WAR ON TERROR!]
Careful ... one more word and the puppy gets it!
;)
The Scarlett doll is about a foot high, I'd say. GWTW being one of my favorite movies (maybe THE favorite), I bought all the dolls. Well most of them. And I never was a doll-person even as a little kid.
BTW, anything from the mailman yet?
That was HORRIBLE, Jonny! Ack! lol
OMG....you've dognapped Gretch's puppy...
ROFL!!! That was some big hair, wasn't it :)
No, not yet...I am so anxious to get it...
You try anything and I'd recommend you have somebody watch your toast.
I must say, as much as I love Dubya, the idea of him serenading anything is a bit frightening. Of course, I've only heard his speaking voice, and he's pleasantly surprised me many times in the past. Maybe if he sang a sad cowboy song while wearing a Stetson and strumming a guitar....
I know--but nobody gave me the Omerta script :)
