Vice President Dick Cheney is eager to help get Alaska's gas flowing, according to Gov. Frank Murkowski. Speaking with members of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday morning in Fairbanks on a list of statewide topics, the governor said he spoke with Cheney on Monday and that the vice president asked what he could do to help bring about a natural gas pipeline.

The vice president said that building the pipeline is a U.S. national security interest, Murkowski said.

The governor said he told the vice president that the pipeline is now in the hands of the Legislature.

Darn... I thought this was going to be about installing a gas line from the Congress. Everyone knows there's a lot of gas produced in there during the long, unproductive sessions.

Man, I wish Cheney would run.

The shock and entertainment value of the Libs wailing and gnashing of teeth alone would be worth the price of admission. LOL

Drill? Not necessary. Building the natural gas pipeline is necessary.

Ditto that. I wish he were younger and had the desire. The same sentiment goes for Rummy.

Drilling is always necessary. Do you only fill up your car after you've run out?

I have no problem as long as we keep the gas for our own use, unlike the current gas line that taxpayers funded, oil companies sell much of this oil to foreign countries.

What gas line are you talking about?

We have already been drilling for 25 years. We pump the oil down the pipeline and re-inject the natural gas back into the ground. Thackney is the expert, but I have heard that there is 50+ years (at the USA's current rate of consumption) of natural gas supply under the north slope.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know there's those reserves up North. I was thinking more along the lines of in the Gulf of Mexico and off the CA coast.

Alaskan Oil is NOT exported. This lie is constantly repeated by the envirowackos. There were a couple of years in the 90's where a very small percentage of Alaskan oil was exported , but none since.

We need a clarification. Jimmy Carter expressed a desire for gas lines in the 70s.

In case you are talking about the Trans Alaskan Oil Pipeline. It was paid for by private industry. It has generated billions of dollars in taxes.

100% of Alaskan North Slope oil is kept in America. This has been the case for all but 4 years of the nearly 3 decades of Alaskan oil production. Between 1996-1999 5.5% of North Slope oil was exported to Asian countries. These exports were overwhelmingly supported by the US Congress and by the Clinton Administration to offset an oil glut in California at the time. In June 2000 Alaskan North Slope oil again ceased to be exported, and 100% of Alaskan North Slope production has stayed in America.

You can see this by looking at the export data. The following link for for exports from all of the West Coast including Alaska and Hawaii. Exports are almost non existant for this area.

::::blushing:::::

My dear Mother (republican) spread that lie to me, I never bothered to check the facts, I mean after all she is my mother. Well in the future I will research things a little better before I throw out disinformation. Thanks for the education, I'll be happy to pass it on to her.

This is about gas. Natural gas. Not oil, not gasoline. The gas is already there and has been reinjected for 30 years.

Ok. Relax. Then let's not drill for anything, ever.
