email from Webb for Senate, raising $$, bashing Allen

Posted on 06/29/2006 8:17:05 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

Dear Friend,

Contribute to our campaign before the June 30th deadline!

George Allen has a race on his hands.

That's what respected pollster John Zogby said after his recent poll showed Jim Webb within six points of Allen -- a razor thin margin given that Allen is an incumbent.

Allen's campaign manager called the poll a "joke"—but at the same time he's running $1 million in television ads to polish up Allen's weak record in the Senate.

It seems George Allen is running scared. Help us keep him on the run by donating to our campaign before Friday's June 30th end-of-quarter deadline.

Poll numbers will ebb and flow, but one fact is clear: the people of Virginia are ready for a change. While Jim intends to run a positive race on the issues, I'm afraid that our opponents are preparing to take the low road in an all-out effort to hang on to this seat. And they’ve already started.

On Tuesday, George Allen and his campaign implied that Jim’s position in support of the Free Speech Amendment to the U.S. Constitution amounted to a political act and not a defense of our Constitution.

The fact is Allen and his campaign have not earned the right to challenge Jim Webb’s position on free speech and flag burning. As Steve Jarding said, “While Jim Webb and others of George Felix Allen Jr.’s generation were fighting for our freedoms and for our symbols of freedom in Vietnam, George Felix Allen Jr. was playing cowboy at a dude ranch in Nevada. People who live in glass dude ranches should not question the patriotism of real soldiers who fought and bled for this country on a real battlefield.”

Provide us the resources we need to fight back against these weak-kneed attacks by cowards. Please rush a contribution to our campaign in the next 48 hours before Friday’s midnight deadline!

http://webbforsenate.com/contribute

We shouldn't be surprised that the attacks are already coming. Just take a look at the advisors Allen has hired.

Allen has hired Mary Matalin, a long-time advisor to Dick Cheney. He's hired Chris Lacivita, the architect of the Swift Boat campaign that smeared John Kerry's war record. And he's hired Dick Wadhams, a man whose last race featured the despicable intimidation of Native American voters and campaign workers breaking the law.

These are some of the roughest operatives in the business. With a $7 million war chest, there is no limit to the tactics they can use against Jim.

That's their team. Our team is all of you. We need to raise as much money as possible by the June 30th end-of-quarter deadline to respond to Allen's negative attacks and give Jim the resources he needs to campaign around the state.

Please contribute to Jim Webb's campaign before the June 30th end-of-quarter deadline. If you give us the resources, you have our word that we'll keep fighting until November -- and that on election day, Jim Webb will be the new senator for Virginia.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jessica Vanden Berg Campaign Manager

P.S. Please contribute to our campaign today, and then forward this message to your friends. Invite them to join our campaign to bring true leadership back to the United States Senate.

Funny Webb doesn't mention the support that he is receiving from the disgraced Sandy Berger.

He needs it:

Allen has $7,562,682 on hand, with $0 debt.
Webb has $219,718, with $100,100 in debt.

And let's not forget the WJLA poll by Survey USA showing

Allen - 56%
Webb - 37%

Even after all that free publicity for Mr. Webb. Kinda explains why he's so shrill so early.

I read Webb's Vietnam book, it wasn't bad, however it was extremly violent (unnecessarily I thought). I wonder what his positions are on Iraq and the War on Terror, its hard to believe he is a Democrat.

He's against the war in Iraq, which led to him going from a Pubbie to a Dem.

Concur. It's Allen's to lose.

Hopefully nobody will try and "swift boat" Webb. It's not necessary and it'll backfire since Webb is a true war hero.

"Hopefully nobody will try and "swift boat" Webb. It's not necessary and it'll backfire since Webb is a true war hero

Pray tell, friend, what exactly is "Swift-boating?"

Yes, (and I'm a Vietnam Vet, also) there is no questioning Web's service--and NO ONE HAS, as far as I can tell.

I do not know of any Swift Boat Vets EVER challenging the military service of ANYONE other than that POS, traitor, John F'n Kerry.

And for any of us to pick up and help spread this misnomer and Dummies/Rats demagoguery is not in our best interest.

Web's (much as Murtha and others) automatic defense mechanism, whenever anyone challenges (or criticizes) their positions on anything which comes close to the WOT, Patriotism, etc., is to "hide" behind their service, thereby, immunizing them from any challenges by the opponents--especially for those who did not serve.

VERY disingenuous and sleazy, if you ask me.

"Swift boating" has become a euphemism for questioning someone's war record. In the case of Kerry it was justified, and in my opinion it's justified for Murtha.

It wouldn't be good if anyone attempted it with Webb. If he wants to default to portraying any criticism of his platform as an attack on his military record let him do it. The voters will see through it.

Uh, why doesn't Allen spend some of the money to tell us WHY we should want to vote for him, instead of attacking his opponent...

Like, he could tell us his positions of the illegal invasion, the 2nd Amendment, the Fed gov't control of public education, etc...

There's plenty of issues the voters are interested in...

"Swift-boating" is when you point out a democrat's lies and misrepresentations about their record.

Like when you quote them.

For example, Webb supporters are saying Allen "swift-boated" Webb by noting that Webb took the same position on flag-burning as Chuck Schumer.

First, he's spent plenty of money on educating me about his positions. Perhaps I'm just special.

Second, could you provide an example or two of him attacking his opponent, please?

Well you must be...Maybe by the time he gets to the bottom of his 7 million, he'll have let the rest of us know his positions...

Second, could you provide an example or two of him attacking his opponent, please?

(snip) On Tuesday, George Allen and his campaign implied that Jim’s position in support of the Free Speech Amendment to the U.S. Constitution amounted to a political act and not a defense of our Constitution.

Just a mild one, but that's where they start...It's in the above article...You must have missed it...

I didn't miss it. The above isn't an article. It's a campaign letter from Allen's opponent.

You'll please excuse me while I snicker and say that perhaps the problem isn't on George Allen's end, won't you? :-D

Instead of questioning Webb's service which never happened, it is legitimate to question his sanity. The man is a candidate for post tramatic stress disorder. He could snap at any moment. Do you want someone that is mentally not there representing you?
