New York Sun daily puzzles outshine NY Times daily puzzles...if you like difficult puzzles.
The Times daily puzzles were too easy. I like puzzles that I can learn from.
I don't like puzzles where the answer depends on esoteric information that you may or may not have. The Times puzzles are constructed so that you can figure them out without resorting to the Internet. And I loathe all the TV and sports arcana clues in the Sun puzzles--a subcategory of the above. If you don't know the former coach of the Reds and the actress who played the witch on such-and-such a TV program, and they happen to cross each other in the puzzle, you're screwed.
Will Shortz is the best. The Times did politicize the puzzle one time, though. That was low.
