Don't forget that a tunnel was driven under the border into Israel to attack a military target. That is a de facto invasion

I wondered about the August date also.

They just might not make it now.

"I'd call that piece nail clipper or perhaps pen knife rattling."

More like tossing Camel Dung into the air and calling for the death of the Great Satin and Israel.

"Interesting, this situation is rapidly deteriorating."

More like accelerating. The Israeli PM has had an awakening to the reality of being friendly with those who wish to kill every Israeli.

Now the ball has been suddenly kicked into A$$ad's court, and it is up to him to decide if he wants to stay in power or end up like Zark Pig.

I agree 100% with your assessment, but right now it doesn't appear as it Hamas/Syria etc. has gotten the message. Syria says the overflight doesn't change its position on the hostage situation and in fact 'claims' it chased the F-16s out with ack-ack. And Hamas and co. are now claiming they have taken a 3rd hostage.
To use your analysis, before Hamas won the vote earlier this year, Fatah/PA was the big brother and kinda acted as a buffer bwtn Israel(Dad) and Hamas(younger brother). Now that Hamas has reached parity with Fatah/PA there is no buffer and i'm not sure yet if Hamas will be able to show the self restraint necessary to back this thing down, particularly with Meshal running around calling the shots in Syria

"...i'm not sure yet if Hamas will be able to show the self restraint necessary to back this thing down, particularly with Meshal running around calling the shots in Syria"

Hamas has one last card to play -- Saudi. You better believe the Saudis are calling President Bush now telling him to back Israel off, using disruption of oil production as a threat. The next 24 hours will be crucial as to what will happen to Hamas. I'm anxiously waiting to hear the American response.

Just think of it as a 8am wake up call for Syrian President Bashar Assad.

A flight of F-16s going mach over your house will wake you up in more ways than one!!!

This is kinda what ArmstedFragg was referring to. This 'one last card' asking the Saudis to lean on the US to lean on Israel would really be Hamas' way of saying we've had enough and you will start to see the situation de-escalate. There has been no indication Hamas is backing off (they continue to take more hostages) and they are not YET taking on the victim role. Same with Syria, they are holding firm. I don't believe Israel is going to back off (even w/ Olmert in power b/c the political fallout would be too much) and unless Syria/Hamas backs off this thing could go off the brink and there would be no turning back

This is from the AP,

"The White House and State Department declined to take a position on the IDF operation in southern Gaza."

I think Israel can take this as a big, all systems go!

"I might point out that had our own government responded to a similar activity on the part of the Iranian "students" who kidnapped our embassy members we might not be having the conversations that we are having with them right now."

I agree, and thank you for posting this thought LEST WE FORGET THAT IT WAS JIMMY CARTER WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Let us pray that we never ever again elect a president on the same order as Carter.
