America is about to revisit one of the most turbulent decades in its history, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told a religious conference in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. "We're about to enter the '60s again," Dean said, but he was not referring to the Vietnam War or racial tensions.
Dean said he is looking for "the age of enlightenment led by religious figures who want to greet Americans with a moral, uplifting vision."
"The problem is when we hit that '60s spot again, which I am optimistic we're about to hit, we have to make sure that we don't make the same mistakes," Dean added. See Video

I was tempted to say that myself. Of course, the reality of capitalism is that most of the people succeed. Communism only guarantees that everyone will be poor - EQUALLY, though! :D

"'Scuse Dean while he kissed this guy...." LOL! I had changed that line to read like that, and then I thought, no, most FReepers probably aren't old enough to remember that it was a frequently mis-understood line many people thought Hendrix said! Glad to know someone else remembers it!

Maybe this time we'll get it right

The photo you posted just proves that the influence of the 1960's is still very much with us. In the pre-hippie era no young woman would appear in public in denim shorts with unhemmed (even untrimmed)leg openings. Nor would she wear a t-shirt with a rude slogan. This get up would have been considered unfeminine and low class.

EVERYTHING fashion-related in the '60s stunk, if you ask me. The hippie-wear absolutely, and the straight-line frumpy potatoe-bag dresses the better women wore stunk.Ooh. You're right. I forgot about all that. I was thinking Jackie Kennedy style. She always seemed tasteful in her dress.
To: the OlLine Rebel
Yea , but Dean cant figure that out . The liberal left sees eutopia in Marxism , ignoring history totally.

If everyone "succeeds" the bar will be raised and our poor may be better off, but they won't have equal goods or size home.

Jimi DID play with the lyric in some concerts. I have a recording (from France?) where he sings "'Scuse me while I kiss THAT guy".

Jackie was the only thing tasteful about the Kennedy's.

"If you look at how we did public housing, we essentially created ghettoes for poor people" instead of using today's method of mixed-income housing.Yeah, that's been a real treat. I can look out my office window and see the "mixed-income" apartment complex across a once-beautiful creek now filled with Big Wheels and other assorted trash. There's an 8-foot high steel fence surrounding the "mixed-income" apartment complex, the only structure in the area with such a security fence. Gee, I wonder if it's meant to keep the surrounding upper-income people from harrassing these "mixed-income" folks?

What he is talking about is the 80 million new immigrants from Mexico and Latin America that will enter the country in the next 15-20 years once the GOP signs the amnesty bill. The majority of these people have a 6th grade education, if that, the older ones who will be coming in will go straight on government assistance.
With SS and Medicare facing bankruptcy have our leaders lost their minds on this immigration/amnesty hoax ? Are they trying to bring about the economic downfall even faster than it will come naturally ?

"That was a time that stressed "everybody's in it together," he said"
Right. After the draft stopped, so did the protests. Sure, every spoiled little punk was in it together- to avoid serving their country.
