Hunger strike, overdoses, and suicides?
Say, you are a good sport, aren't you?

I suspect the ones who get suicidal are the ones who fear they are in danger of weakening.
To: SmithL
You don't get it. They were all just vacationing in Afghanistan when they were taken from their beds in the dead of night. And they are so sure of their innocence, so determined to regain their freedom that they'll die to do it rather than continue to use diplomatic and legal channels.
You like my DUmmie impression? :)
To: SmithL
I would welcome a wave of such suicidal attacks in our prisons. We may have to provide counseling for all the distraught prison guards, though. :^)

Could it be that some in the AP are actually figuring out the Islamofacists for what they are and starting to report the truth????

Detainees sound like they have some seratonin issues. Maybe the Docs need to put some Zoloft in the water down there.... ;)

"And now they've succeeded in killing themselves."
They say this like it's a BAD thing.

They're trying to figure out ways that they can continue the fight," Navy Rear Adm. Harry Harris, the commander of the U.S. prison on Cuba's southeastern tip. "They do that with hunger strikes, overdosing on medicines. And now they've succeeded in killing themselves
Somehow I fail to connect with the problem here.

We do live in confoundingly strange times.
Our enemies, who wish to deal death to all of us, are killing themselves and we treat this as something to prevented and condemned?
Need to dust off "The world turned upside down."
To: SmithL
"The suicides of the three detainees prompted renewed calls from European countries and human rights groups to close Guantanamo, which holds about 450 men on suspicion of links to al-Qaida or the Taliban. " Rather than close Camp Gitmo why not just throw those who are too stupid to recognize its value in with the Satan worshipers already in residence.
I bet the know-it-alls would quickly come to recognize why they need to be there.
To: SmithL
It would be easy to stop suicides--announce anyone who commits suicide will be buried wrapped in pigskin.
A couple of legal experts on Fox yesterday (one of them was Judge Napolitano) both thought it likely that the court would rule against the administration on Gitmo. Of course that doesn't mean setting the prisoners free, as the Euro-weenies would like to see happen...either they would be transferred to other US prisons or sent to Afghanistan or wherever.

Send Kevorkian to "save" them!

They could fix this immediately - simply mount video cameras on the Gitmo prisoners, 24 & 7. No privacy with the possible exception of using the bathroom.
Then, when the accusations of abuse, torture, etc., start...just show the tapes.
Just show the tapes...

We can't possibly do that for several reasons - the two big ones are that it would be illegal since it would be subjecting them to ridicule and that many of the techniques we admit using involve causing pain and torment. Releasing those interrogation logs was bad enough - visual evidence would be catastrophic.

I think their suicides are, like Gitmo officials stated in the article, just their last ditch effort to continue the battle. They know the NYSlimes will make a big deal of it. What they don't understand is that the American public doesn't care if they "off" themselves---we couldn't care less! So, the joke is still on them. They have ended their miserable, useless lives and it impresses no one but the NYSlimes----and they're easily impressed!

Sounds like a great way to save us money.
Could be they heard they were going back to Afghanistan or Iraq for trials and hangings.

I recommend sending a delegation of wacko Liberals (made up of Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, Schumer, Durbin, and Reid) over there to counsel these poor, misunderstood terrorists threatening suicide.
To: garyhope
Yup, reported like it is very bad they are killing themselves. I don't know, it seems to me that they are doing the work so our soldiers don't have to. I cheer them on.

Lessons from previous conflict.
Field Marshal Bill Slim dealt with problems of defeated combatants in WWII Burma thus:
1. If the Japanese liked to go on fighting, I was ready for them.
2.If the officers lost their soldier's respect, I could care less, as I intended to separate them from their men in any case.
If the officers committed suicide, I had already prepared for this by broadcasting that any Japanese officer wishing to commit suicide would be given every facility.
Bill Slim presided at the overall Japanese surrender in Singapore, Sept 12, 1945.
In war, gentlemen, there is no debate.
