Inside the mind of Newt Gingrich: If I can help shape the agenda for both parties in 2006, I can win the presidency in 2008. I'm looking now at the recent record, starting with two hot issues: health care and immigration. On health care, the June 12 Washington Post ran a front-page story, "States' Changes Reshape Medicaid/New Restrictions Aim to Save Money"; the piece gave me, and my group, The Center for Health Transformation, credit for instigating the shift toward prevention and personal responsibility among Medicaid recipients. Outcomes are improved, and money is saved it's a win-win for governors of both parties.
And as for immigration, I was one of the first to see the importance of border control. Even before Sept. 11, I argued for a Department of Homeland Security. So now, Bush's plan for guest workers will have to wait. The House Republicans, who still listen to me, will be the big winners; they will block the White House plan and reap the benefit with the voters. By contrast, the Senate Republicans sided with the White House, taking the side of open borders; now they will reap an unpleasant political whirlwind. Indeed, the Senate whirlwind-reapers include most of the '08 hopefuls: John McCain, Bill Frist, Chuck Hagel and Sam Brownback. All voted wrong this year; all will be blown away in the GOP primaries. Meanwhile, the Democrats are using my political ideas. Look at this headline in The Hill on June 15: "Democrats can't get enough of Newt Gingrich's slogan." Back in March I had said the Democrats could recapture Congress by using a two-word slogan: "Had enough?" Those two simple words, after all, were used by the Republicans back in their victorious year of 1946.
And now the Pelosi Democrats, proving again that they have

Maybe not if Mike Bloomberg goes ahead with his 3rd party stupidity.
I'd have to disagree. Allen is not afraid to take the tough (but correct) stand. Take a look at his record, starting with the immigration/amnesty bill. He also has a perfect rating from the American Conservative Union, and Rush Limbaugh speaks very favorably about him.
Has Bloomberg talked about running in '08, or has it all been speculation (and mostly from Bill Clinton)?
Except that Bloomberg is hardly to the right of the Clintons. My guess is that he would get most of his votes from the left. The Clintons DEFINITELY do not want to see him run.
Awww.... Did your feelings get hurt?
And a fine example he was...
Agreed!

Newt has zero chance of ever being elected. Heck, I wouldn't even vote for him. George Allen would be a much, much better choice.
They both are sexually squalid misfits. The President of the USA should not be prone to serial bed hopping. He/she should be a man/woman of good moral character with no mistresses/boy toys.(No homosexuals need apply) Surely there must be some candidates of moral character left to run for President without having to scrap the bottom of the sexual immorality barrel.
I don't think Newt qualifies as a RINO. He's probably not as strong a social conservative as I would like. But he's good on taxes and spending (his congress actually controlled spending instead of just talking about it), he's good on immigration, and I'm pretty sure he would fight the WOT without RINO illusions.
Not sure he would be a good president, though. He's kind of wonkish and would tend to get far too involved in detail, like Clinton or Carter. Also, he has some serious electability issues--serving his wife with divorce papers when she's in the hospital sucks.
At this point, George Allen still looks like the best guy--although he's a johnny-come-lately on immigration. Good campaigner and pretty much a Reagan conservative thru and thru. Also, he did a remarkable job as the Gov of Virginia, so he knows how to be an executive.
"If someone else better comes along, I'll support him. But there's no one better out there yet that I've seen."
George Allen
I'm taking a "wait and see" attitude with Allen. I just don't know enough about him. Newt, for all his defects, is a known quantity.
I've always said Newt would be Hillary's choice for the Republican nominee. He would give her the best chance to win.
With a 'Rat/leftie, it doesn't matter what goes on in his/her private life, as long a he/she "works for the American people" (translation: moves the leftist agenda forward). They adore x42 and would vote for him again in a heartbeat if he could run again.
A Pubbie/conservative with a questionable private life, however, is unfit to serve in any capacity. Remember how they ran Sen. Packwood out of town on a rail ... they would no doubt pull out all the stops to try to get Newt.
There is plenty of info out there on Allen for anyone that wishes to check.
The RATS fear him above all others.
