House Race Hotline Extra: Utah 03 Some quotes to illustrate the importance of this race.
"There is a very good chance that he could go down," Jeff Hartley, executive director of the Utah Republican Party, tells First Read. "You wouldn't have the involvement from the White House if he weren't in jeopardy." (NBC News)
Consultant LeVarr Webb: "A low turnout is expected, so be one of the few who make a difference and have a voice." (Utah Policy Daily) )
UT GOP Chair Joe Cannon "says he's trying to stay neutral" in his brother's UT 03 primary, "but it didn't come across that way" in his online comments about challenger/alleged Satan victim John Jacob (Salt Lake Tribune).
A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. (Deseret News)
Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity.
Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. It's not the devil; it's adversity." (Utah Policy Daily)

Could somebody ping me to tonight's (or tomorrow's) inevitable "John Jacob won even though he lost" thread? It will be certainly fun if Jacob wins.

These groups have been building this up for years. It does not suprise me that a Congress like Cannon that takes courageous stands and tackles tough issues would be gone after. There has been a lot of dirt been flying

When your state turns red maybe your opinion will carry a little weight.

Could somebody ping me to tonight's (or tomorrow's) inevitable "John Jacob won even though he lost" thread? Cannon may still win but he's fighting for his political life isn't he? That's good, every open border apologist in both parties needs to and will from now on.

According to some former loyal Reagan advisors he considered that a mistake of his administration. Oh you must mean pat buchanan, who advised President Reagan to make that disasterous trip to the nazi cemetary in Bitburg.
And then got rlegated to a broom closet office and then fired.
BTW, does anybody know if pat buchanan was in California to write "I'll get you GW Bush and your jewish cronies too" on that boat from Guatemala that came in port in california.

One newspaper is saying $136,000. As opposed to Team America's $40,500. How unfair! That mean Tom Tancredo and that mean Bay Buchanan. Awful!

Reagan's history of being pro-immigration goes beyond just the 1986 Amnesty, which was a true amnesty, not this misuse and hijacking of the language you guys refer to as amnesty. Perhaps Reagan thought the 1986 legislation was a mistake since the promised enforcement never came about, (though I never have heard or read anything out of his mouth to that effect) but I have no basis for believing he turned against his decades long beliefs in immigration and guest worker policies.

So it's courageous to take a stand against the bill that your very own party passed detailing security first options for our borders?
Interesting rationale you have there.

It will be certainly fun if Jacob wins.It would also be fun if I won the lottery. Which is more likely to happen. Even though I don't play the lottery.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz, I love braindead comments like that. If you don't agree with Free Republic's extremist wing, then you must be a Democrat. Come up with some better lines. That one is played. If you can't handle opposing views within a big tent party, which no less a man that Ronald Reagan said the GOP should be, then you prove the point I and others have made about the absolutism overtaking some on the far right. I was probably a conservative when you were still sperm.

Conservatives certainly won't miss him. I received the sweetest letter from Kay Baily Hutchison regarding her feeling about illegal immigration and how it should be dealt with. There is not much I disagree with her about her stance. I am not totally against a guest worker program, but I agree with her that they should return home first and then apply and their acceptance being on condition that no American has applied for the job.
She in no way thinks the measures presented for guarding the border using drones and all the other lame measures presented go nearly far enough.
In Texas we have the closest thing to conservative politicians in the entire USofA and their voting record backs them up. To me Cornyn is still an unknown entity, he sounds pretty globalist minded while voting conservative. Perhaps he knows better than not to vote the right way despite his personal preference, or perhaps he just knows how to play the political game.
The name Joe Barton is all that needs to be said when speaking about conservative.
If every state in the union had the choices we do for politicians we would have no problems.
To: tennmountainman
Well, I appreciate your opinion of my powers, but believe me, your schtick is getting old. You see, the problem is, as brilliant as I am (and I am brilliant) there are some idiots who refuse to listen to me.
Like you, for instance.
