House Race Hotline Extra: Utah 03 Some quotes to illustrate the importance of this race.
"There is a very good chance that he could go down," Jeff Hartley, executive director of the Utah Republican Party, tells First Read. "You wouldn't have the involvement from the White House if he weren't in jeopardy." (NBC News)
Consultant LeVarr Webb: "A low turnout is expected, so be one of the few who make a difference and have a voice." (Utah Policy Daily) )
UT GOP Chair Joe Cannon "says he's trying to stay neutral" in his brother's UT 03 primary, "but it didn't come across that way" in his online comments about challenger/alleged Satan victim John Jacob (Salt Lake Tribune).
A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. (Deseret News)
Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity.
Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. It's not the devil; it's adversity." (Utah Policy Daily)
Did I lose something in the translation? You're not denying that Cannon received hundreds of thousands of dollars from pro-mass immigration/amnesty groups are you? You only want to rant about Buchanan's democratic right to participate while conveniently ignoring that little tidbit.
You do know that Jacob is pro-amnesty, right?
Oh, so poor Cannon is a victim, "worn down" by those meanie radical organizations?
Every other observer plainly sees that Cannon is in trouble because he has become the amnesty poster boy, and as such is out of step with his conservative district. The only reason you are defending him is because he has helped facilitate the flow of illegals.
It is so lame when the FROBL trots out all these strawmen, and denies the Cannon record when that record is the only reason they support him.
Just come out and admit that you like Cannon for the same reason the immigration lawyers like him. Step out from behind the strawman, it'll be okay.
You do know that Jacob advocates breaking immigration law, right?
uh no you didn't, John Jacob blamed his lack of campaign funds due to satan.
Could somebody ping me to tonight's (or tomorrow's) inevitable "John Jacob won even though he lost" thread?
It is extremely unusual for a President to get involved in a local GOP primary race.
"F-" LOL!
As if an "F" isn't enough of failure, no we need to add a minus just to emphasize that we really really dislike what he did.
Because we are totally cereal.
I am just commenting on the way folks try to color their opponents by either omitting key words or playing the race card.
If we threw out every congress critter who made to unusual statements your
"Scottish Law" Senator Specter would lead the line out of congress.
No problem, I pinged EV since he probably will be the author of the howard dean like "loss is victory" thread about the Cannon/Jacob race thread on FR.
So folks who opposed Cannon's stance on illegal immigration should not try to replace him with someone else after failing previously?
John Jacob Jingleheimer SchmidtI know because it's my name too.
Well I guess u are calling 52% of the UTAH Convention delegates Cannon haters.
Because 52% of them voted for Jacob and 48% of them voted for Cannon.
And thats why we have a runnoff. Neither one got 60%.
Persoannly I don't think radical orgainazations like FAIR ,Numbers, CIS are strawmen. They pretty much want to halt all legal immigration(But I forget the mantra is we are only against illegal immigratrion) and want to reduce the population to 150 million. That to me is pretty radical. There enviromentialist tendencies in those groups are at times more extreme than Al Gore.
TO see what Cannon been fighting against go here.

According to some former loyal Reagan advisors he considered that a mistake of his administration. Yes he was very pro-immigration but also said a nation without borders isn't a nation.
We've been down the road of amnesty before, it doesn't work and I'm not going to support any candidate like Cannon who wants to take that failed path again.
"Could somebody ping me to tonight's (or tomorrow's) inevitable "John Jacob won even though he lost" thread?"
Yeah, go spend some time and help turn your state red.
People can do what they want too. But I think its important to see that he has been under constant attack from some pretty out of district organizations. This isnt justthis year
