House Race Hotline Extra: Utah 03 Some quotes to illustrate the importance of this race.
"There is a very good chance that he could go down," Jeff Hartley, executive director of the Utah Republican Party, tells First Read. "You wouldn't have the involvement from the White House if he weren't in jeopardy." (NBC News)
Consultant LeVarr Webb: "A low turnout is expected, so be one of the few who make a difference and have a voice." (Utah Policy Daily) )
UT GOP Chair Joe Cannon "says he's trying to stay neutral" in his brother's UT 03 primary, "but it didn't come across that way" in his online comments about challenger/alleged Satan victim John Jacob (Salt Lake Tribune).
A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. (Deseret News)
Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity.
Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. It's not the devil; it's adversity." (Utah Policy Daily)
I know they don't. It's still early. I'm hoping Jacob can pull it out.
They want vote Republican if folks keep comparing every illegal here to murderers or armed bank robbers thats for sure.
Support him do what?
Open the borders? Amnesty for illegals?
Naw, we'll fight all the way thru the 2006 elections.
Yes, but only because I don't want the Dim to win.
If Cannon wins UT conservatives may turn their attention to Jim Noorlander (CP candidate)
Keep the Faith! I wish some FReepers would just shut-up! Enough already!
How are you going to fight him?
Not if he supports amnesties. The issue is a make or break for me at this point.
Yeah that's what I thought you would say.
I would not lose heart.
Cannon was forced into a runnoff 2 years ago over immigration.
He won handily.
But if he squeaks by and still wins, you will see him measure his future immigration votes more carefully (He'll Get The Message).
Nobody said it would be easy to win against a 5 term congressman
with the UNUSUAL intervention of the President and the first lady.

looks like they start voting young in Utah and go till they are old...
I wish they would but they will never leave the poor man fully alone. THe people that hate Cannon really believe as the Blues Brothers said that they are on a misson From God. Damn the consequences and Damn the Torpedos. Also now ever so subtly all this Kookdum about the United States ceasing to exist and all our countries merging is taking hold. I feel sorry for Cannon, but if he survives this second tough challenge I think they might have too look elsewhere to unseat a sitting Republican Congressman
Looks like the polls will close 11 PM EDT
What did you expect? That's like asking me if I would support McCain or Hagel. They don't get it. Now if Cannon changes and gets tough that's different. Even Chris Shays has come around...
Well it's your ball and you can take it home if you want.
thanks..
I see 10 pm edt or 8 minutes?
You are probablly right, but this constant yammering, "they are hard workers"; They just want a better life" crap from some people just makes my blood boil.
You bet, I've been on the immigration issue and Ted Kennedy's scams since the late 1980s and I'm not giving up until we win.
I'm with you!
