House Race Hotline Extra: Utah 03 Some quotes to illustrate the importance of this race.
"There is a very good chance that he could go down," Jeff Hartley, executive director of the Utah Republican Party, tells First Read. "You wouldn't have the involvement from the White House if he weren't in jeopardy." (NBC News)
Consultant LeVarr Webb: "A low turnout is expected, so be one of the few who make a difference and have a voice." (Utah Policy Daily) )
UT GOP Chair Joe Cannon "says he's trying to stay neutral" in his brother's UT 03 primary, "but it didn't come across that way" in his online comments about challenger/alleged Satan victim John Jacob (Salt Lake Tribune).
A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. (Deseret News)
Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity.
Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. It's not the devil; it's adversity." (Utah Policy Daily)
Not really, IMO, he will have his small fringe base and I think the debates would be amusing.
Ask him a question other than immigration or the bilderbergers and he will have the deer in the headlights look.
Plus, it's easy for a traditional R to deflect Tancredo by simply being law-and-order about it. Every candidate who has a shot at the 2008 nomination will support immigration reform in some form and Rudy will be the only one who would not be credible on the issue.
I only mentioned it after Dane used it in one of his little quips.
The Senate bill says give us amnesty now and we'll get around to enforcing the law, we promise. It brings in at least 66 to 100 million people in the next 20 years with the guarantee of unending, unlimited chain migration. If that's not open borders it's the closest thing to it.
Fine, the Jazz Age, some time in the past. Did they have talkies then?
"When Cannon wins, and he will 53% to 47% for "the devil is out to get me" Boy, listen for the sounds of crickets from the Mexiphobe crowd on FR."
If you think a 53%-47% win for Cannon against a novice is a real victory
wait untill you see how Cannon moves to the right on future immigration votes.
And thats not a bad thig either.
Conceding defeat already?
First off that heritage report is garbage those numbers come from When the entire population of Mexico is just 107 million that should tell us that we are not going to have 66 to 100 million people hear in 20 years
Second, I am not aware of any proposal that gives amnesty or a full pardon. I am aware of proposals that say after paying fines, taxes keeping ones nose clean for 12 to 15 years, learning English and other conditions that one can apply to become a citizen.
I am not familar with any proposals that give amnesty. A full pardon and full forgiveness.
If Jacob loses, I'll recognize that fact.
But it's still a pyrric victory for Cannon assuming he wins.
Actually I am celebrating the victory we have already won.
Why don't you yank your head out of the sand! I was reading this thread three hours ago and your yammering gave me a headache. You are still at it. Maybe your husband should lose his Union job to illegal immigrants and take another job and have the illegal immigrants taking over that too; maybe then you'll understand!
(a) There is no "but".
(b)Please. If you are going to use the word Pyrrhic, please spell it correctly. I'm beginning to think you don't know what it means...
If Cannon wins it will show that the Dark forces of the Tanton groups after going after him nonstop for years have been defeated again. I know that many will try to spin it differently but you can only spin the same stuff from the Throckmorton challenge to Cannon so many times
See! This is exactly what I am talking about.
The Senate bill doubles legal immigration to 2 million annually. That alone is 40 million in 20 years.
Then there's the massive new "guest" worker program, and it wouldn't be open to only Mexico. In fact my hunch is you'll find most of them coming from Asia. Mexicans will still be allowed in but mostly as illegal immigrants since the borders will never be gotten completely under control.
As far as the amnesty: what the Senate is proposing is the same exact thing we saw in 1986 except for one difference, Reagan called it what is was. They had penalties too, almost identical.
Go back PA and help turn you state RED.
You and Arlen Specter are an example of why PA is BLUE BLUE BLUE!
Come on down to Tennessee and we'll teach you to turn your former state RED RED RED
When are you going to berate RWTB for his interest in this race and not concentrating on the junior Senator from his state, sir hillary.
And by "reasoning" I mean nothing of the sort.
THe HEritage numbers have been challenged several places because of their analysis. It assumes many thing s that don't happen in the real world. Plus that is the Senate Bill we both know that what comes out of any compromise committee will toughen up and work out the kinks. It will take the nest of the comprehensive approach in the senate and hopefully the best out the HB as to security give us a good bill.
The purpose of that Senate bill was to get something anything out so it could get to conference. It will be a whole new animal hopefully
