House Race Hotline Extra: Utah 03 Some quotes to illustrate the importance of this race.
"There is a very good chance that he could go down," Jeff Hartley, executive director of the Utah Republican Party, tells First Read. "You wouldn't have the involvement from the White House if he weren't in jeopardy." (NBC News)
Consultant LeVarr Webb: "A low turnout is expected, so be one of the few who make a difference and have a voice." (Utah Policy Daily) )
UT GOP Chair Joe Cannon "says he's trying to stay neutral" in his brother's UT 03 primary, "but it didn't come across that way" in his online comments about challenger/alleged Satan victim John Jacob (Salt Lake Tribune).
A poll published over the weekend by the Deseret Morning News and KSL-TV, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, found Cannon ahead 46-33 percent among registered voters in the 3rd District. But 18 percent of voters remained undecided. "That's one of the highest 'undecideds' numbers I've seen so close to a primary election," said Jones, who has polled in Utah for more than 30 years. (Deseret News)
Jacob backtracks on his "Satan" comments: "What the [Salt Lake Tribune] reported and what I said weren't the same thing. It wasn't that [the devil] was trying to keep me out of Washington. I was just saying when you're trying to get into politics, there's a lot of adversity.
Contrary to reports of saying it was keeping me from being there, it was going to help me in training when I get there. It's not the devil; it's adversity." (Utah Policy Daily)
Then why is my name your post if it's not directed at me? That's a copout to say what you are now. You made all kinds of wild assumptions about the amnesty that were simply not accurate and it has been pointed to you.
So take your hysteria and either put a lid on it or direct it elsewhere.
Reread the above paragraph.
Joe's good rating from the ACU would probably make me vote for him if I were in his district.
It basically means this. I do not want sitting Congresman that is a Republican to campaign against another sitting Republican in another state. Even if that involvment is behinds the scenes. It will cause major problems for House Repub unity.
Hint, we don't talk that way in the SouthWest...
We don't even talk that way in NY. :)
Such petty things as GOP unity means horse hockey to meglomaniacs such as tom tancredo, IMO.
Well its a big concern to me. I have been screaming that if Tancredo was not punished by the leadership(committe assignments) that this precedent could be a bad one. I mean what if ones issue was abortion, trade, etc etc. With so many things coming down to party line votes in the House its a concern.
And a big concern to me also, but not to the tancredoites on FR.
JMO, if charlie manson from his jail cell proclaimed that he hates all illegal aliens and was running against Chris Cannon, I sincerely believe some posters on FR(not you) would be saying to themselves, "go charlie".
That is the intensity of their red hot hate against a 100% ACU conservative.
Hate can blind people to rationality as I have seen in the posts on the Cannon/Jacob threads in the last couple of weeks.
Well I am extremely nervous about tonight. This is nothing more than a battle for the soul of the GOP. I know its dangerous to examine races from a tousand miles away. Cannon could lose because of anti incumbent fever or issues that minute. But in the end a Cannon loss will be spun as a victory for the Tancredo forces and thus become a reality
However if Cannon does win. It might provides what needed to give the leadership some backbone and have then start dealing with issue. OF course this race is so important on so many other levels
What about President Bush campaigning for Cannon? Do you have a problem with that? If so, I have not heard it.
If you condemn Tom Tancredo because the PAC he founded has spent a paltry $50,000 in radio ads exposing Cannon's lies about his own pro-illegal alien voting record, then you must similarly condemn the President and the First Lady for their invaluable campaigning for Cannon. And I don't see you doing that any time soon. Hypocrisy is thy name.
However if Cannon does win. It might provides what needed to give the leadership some backbone and have then start dealing with issue. OF course this race is so important on so many other levels
JMO, I think Cannon will win, just look at the irrational bombast(almost like a cornered rat) I got from JCeccles in reply #254.
There is still a little over 2 hours to go until the polls close, but I have a hunch the tancredoites on FR are already writing their howard dean like "loss is victory" replies for the Cannon/Jacob election results.
TWhat Bush did was rare but has happened before. However he is the Executive. The dynamics in the HOuse and having to deal with over 200 republicans and keep them unifyed is hard enough. Bush himself has become a issue in this race and Cannon has defended him and his outlook. Thats why he went. However this has been going on for years betwwen Tancredo and Cannon. He was told to heel by Delay in the past. IF this precedent is allowed to be broken its going to be a disaster in a already hard to govern House Caucus. No one is concerned about the President really and his participation. But they are concerned about their fellow collegues
Ewww...What's that smell? Diaper change time, Dane?
That is the intensity of their red hot hate against a 100% ACU conservative.
Red hot hate against a conservative? Rep. Tom Tancredo's conservative ratings surpass Cannon's on almost every score and, even then, Cannon only ties with Tancredo. Yet, you spend day after day displaying red hot seething hatred against Tom Tancredo on this very website.
Is it comparison time again? I think it is:
Rep. Tom Tancredo's ratings from various conservative organizations:
100% "Best and Brightest" Rating from American Conservative Union (one of only 38 other Congressmen)Rep. Cannon's ratings for comparison:
100% Rating from National Right to Life Committee
100% Rating from Conservative Index (Spring '05 - 75% lifetime, tied for second highest rating)
100% Rating from Concerned Women for America
100% Rating from Christian Coalition
100% Rating from Campaign for Working Families
100% Rating from FreedomWorks
98% Rating from National Tax Limitation Committee (average since 1999)
95% "Taxpayer Hero" Rating from Citizens Against Government Waste
95% Rating from Americans for Tax Reform
95% Rating from Christian Action Network
93% Rating from Eagle Forum (tied for second highest rating)
American Conservative Union: Lower than Tancredo's score.
National Right to Life Committee: Same as Tancredo's score.
Conservative Index: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
Concerned Women for America: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Christian Coalition: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Campaign for Working Families: Lower than Tancredo's score.
FreedomWorks: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
National Tax Limitation Committee: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Citizens Against Government Waste: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
Americans for Tax Reform: Similar to Tancredo's score
Christian Action Network: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Eagle Forum: Lower than Tancredo's score.
My post #209 was NOT directed at you. Nevertheless, you responded to it in your post #215. Get your posts straight before ranting on any further.
Pretty impressive data.
Proves your point.
You still posted on a public forum and I responded to it. You can do the same to me and my feelings won't be hurt, trust me. :)
Even if Cannon wins, and he might immigration reform is still dead for this year. The House is looking at what Cannon is going through and will want no part of it.
Well, Dane, we'll all know in a few hours. Do you plan on staying up late tonight?
My take, too..... and Cannon looked really worried in a news clip this afternoon.
I just started dinner, will get it over with and the dogs fed so I can sit here and freep tonight.
This race is really, really close...
