When I read this full-page ad in the AJC this morning, I wanted to jump up and shout, then go down to RBM and buy a car. Reality soon set in since they are a Mercedes dealer, but I am SO PROUD of them I could pop. Hope you enjoy this full-text version of the letter in their ad. Wvoter
To Our Clients:
We are sorry!
While we strongly affirm the right of free speech, the June 22, 2006 Mike Luckovich cartoon depicting the U.S. as torturers on par with Al-Qaida was very offensive to us. Moreover, to publish this cartoon directly above the pictures of the two brave men who gave their lives, willingly, and were tortured and mutilated in service to their country (and each of us) is unacceptable.
RBM of Atlanta and its employees represent a broad range of political, ethnic and religious backgrounds. We often see things differently just like any family, group, or community. But one thing we all are is American. And we are proud of it. Together we stand - to do anything within our power to support our country. We count -with great pride- a large number if employees who are veterans, and some who currently serve in the military.
RBM of Atlanta has been a long-time advertiser in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. We have signed an agreement, which we intend to honor, to advertise with them into the future. However, this event has changed the way we view the relationship. For now, we have chosen to spend our ad dollars to let you know that we do not agree with the editorial cartoonist of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and that we are proud of our country along with the men and women who serve us all.
In closing, we wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families of Thomas Tucker and Kristian Menchaca. RBM of Atlanta and our country owe you a deep debt of gratitude for your sacrifice.

I just called too. The man I spoke with was polite. He asked where I was calling from and he asked where I saw the ad. I told him my city and Free Republic.com.
He couldn't have been nicer.
Not impressed. All they really did was make an ad that put more money in the filthy rags treasury. If they meant it they would stop advertising, no matter what "agreement they had signed". Hit them where it hurts, because right now the paper is laughing all the way to the bank.
Thanks for the ping Landry! After composing myself, I called them, too. She said they are receiving a lot of calls adding "that's putting it mildly"
Actually I hope they did!
Luckovich is Andrew Wyeth compared to Ted Rall.
One would have to really stretch things to think that a car dealership's advertizing budget is significant enough to make a large city newspaper sway their editorial content. Those familiar with the Atlanta Journal Constitution know of it's typical extreme-leftist behavior. There's a reason it's called the "Atlanta Journal Constipation".

Thanks for the Ping Landry.

You are an intelligent and insightful human being.
OMG, if I could afford a Mercedes, I would go to Atlanta to buy it from this wonderful company.
Me too!
BUMP
Actually, we locals prefer to call it the "Atlanta Urinal-Constipation". ;)
It ain't. Don't you worry about that. We're still in GA not LA.
Thanks for the ping. I sent it on to my friends/relatives in Georgia.
