Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
I suspect we would nominate the same ones--some of whom, it might be added, are CNN castoffs. But Geraldo is another, as is Shep Smith and some of the morning newsettes.
Another suggestion for Ailes: enough with the missing blonde stories (Natalee is but one), and do real news.
I rarely watch TV.
When I want TV news, I first turn to Fox News ... then discover (again) that most of the time it's not news, it's talking heads, so I turn to CNN or Headline News.
Kinda like MTV not showing much music anymore - no wonder I don't watch it.
All that is needed is a full blown conservative network & FOX would be in the toilet like the rest. (This always brings up the question of why there isn't one)
OK - that's one of the names on my "list".
Get back to the conservative coverage that made you #1 in the first place!
get rid of GUILFOYLE for starters!
Add Neil Cavuto and David Asman: six hour shifts. ;O)
Ditto...more heavies like Hume, Cavuto and Gibson...lose the 'flavor of the week' crime crap.
My thoughts exactly! That's why I have dropped several FOX shows from viewing pleasure.
Wake up call, Roger!
Plus, no one....no one! watches on the weekends cause we can't stand Julien!!!....He needs to go bigtime!
Just great suggestions, and worth repeating.
Purge the libtrash they push and get back to real reporting.
Exactly! As many are saying, conservatives made Fox what it is--they should remember that, or they'll end up like MSNBC.
When they put so many liberals on - I turn off the TV
A person can only take listening to the liberal BS for so long
If I wanted to watch that .. I'd turn on CNN or MSNBC
Memo to Ailes: Quit moving your programming left and you'll see ratings improve.
These days, half the time it seems more like the Fox Rape Channel than the Fox News Channel.
Yeah, that way they can at least take a lunch. :-D
I turn it off whenever the former CNN pretty boy Bill Himmer comes on.
Fox has far too many pretty faces and not enough serious reporters covering hard news.
FOX News is turning into another liberal mouthpiece using skewed polls and allowing the Rats all the time they need to rant and rave about how bad the Republicans are. I've noticed a change in their "fair and balanced" platform for the last few months and that's why I've now shut them off my TV also.
LOL - that's another name on my "list".
I think they should try harder to be balanced. Try to get more liberals to watch.
