DOES IT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE IS GUNNING FOR SOMEONE HERE?

This morning we get the word that when Rush Limbaugh landed at Palm Beach International Airport in his private plane yesterday the customs folks decided to go through every bag on the aircraft.

Alas .. they found a bottle of Viagra that didn't have his name on it. Now this is a big news story, and officials are saying that Limbaugh could be charged with a misdemeanor.

OK .. this is a non-narcotic drug. Limbaugh's attorney explains that the bottle carried the doctor's name for privacy reasons. Since authorities in Palm Beach County are so interested in Limbaugh's medications, that's easy to understand.

What isn't easy to understand is why the customs folks decided to target Limbaugh's plane? What's not easy to understand is why they decided to make such a big deal out of a bottle of Viagra. After watching the debacle over Limbaugh's pain-killer addiction, I'm convinced that there are some officials in heavily-Democratic Palm Beach County who have taken it upon themselves to bring Limbaugh down. This incident makes you wonder just how far their reach really is.

"Question for the freepers out there. I thought Customs only had authority to search (without a warrant) if the plane was coming in from a different country. True?
"

The plane, a private jet, arrived from the Dominican Republic. That is, as you may know, a foreign country. It's also a country with drug activity, and is a destination for sex tourism.

So...Customs was not out of line in checking bags from a plane arriving from there.

Sounds like Rush was engaging in some fornication down there in the Dominican Republic. That's his right, of course.

The Liberals are terrified about Rush's influence.

That simple.

Yes, Bush is a highly valued target to them.

But it's Limbaugh they ultimately want. And I'm not refering to the whacked out grassroots base that is obsessed with Bush, I'm talking about the heavy weights in the business.

It's Limbaugh who helped bring about '92. It's Limbaugh that kept conservatism relevant post Reagan giving it a national voice. It was Limbaugh that helped win in 2000, 2002 and 2004. He wasn't the only one, but he IS the Face of conservatism and it is conservatives that have been bringing the estbalishment/Liberals down piece by piece. It's Limbaugh that will be there when Bush is gone.

This is just another sign of their desperation to take him down.

They were out to get Rush. Pursuing this type of incident isn't worth doing the mountain of paperwork that CBP has foisted upon it's employees. If this was just a regular Joe Citizen they would use officer descretion and have him dump his pills and let him go.

This is all about sex, move on.

That, indeed, has to be said.

Given the Oxycondin crusade the Palm Beach County district attorney was on, you have to wonder why he stays in Palm Beach. I understand Florida provides a haven for New York residents escaping the high state and local income taxes of the Empire State. Palm Beach and Broward Counties are largely inhabited by former New Yorkers and New Jerseyans who have taken their leftist politics south. However, there are more conservative areas in the state, such as the Panhandle and the southwest, where Rush Limbaugh is less likely to suffer from prosecutors with a anti-conservative grudge.

Notwithstanding his past problems, why did he take the risk of traveling to the Dominican Republic, with its reputation for cheap sex, carrying a bottle of Viagra? He may have not engaged in any sexual misconduct, but the circumstances could lead people to believe that it happened. Granted, a man who has been divorced three times is no exemplar of family values, and Limbaugh never pretended to be one. However, an unmarried man carrying Viagra to a place known for available prostitution looks bad. Limbaugh should have dumped the Viagra, especially if the prescription was not in his name, to avoid hassles at Customs.

Limbaugh has been the pioneer of nationally broadcast conservative radio and he played a major role in the Republican resurgence in the 1990s that led to the GOP capturing the White House in 2000 and holding it in 2004, as well as maintaining control of the House of Representatives for almost 12 years. He blazed the path that Hannity, Savage, O'Reilly, and others have followed. However, his lapses in good judgment and his personal problems are serious enough that he needs to step back for a while. The best thing for him and conservatism in general might be his retirement from talk radio, or at least a sabbatical.

Well, a guy takes Viagra with him on a trip only if he plans on using it. Otherwise, why bother taking it?

I'm not saying that Rush shouldn't be having sex on a trip. That's his business. But others might have a problem with it, based on their religious beliefs.

So, the whole Viagra thing may do Rush some harm with some of his fans, I suppose. What I'd think is that he'd be very careful with prescription drugs all the time, given his past problems with them.

He's a celebrity, but not in the same way movie actors and musicians are. Everyone expects them to have sex with whomever they wish, and at any time. That doesn't hurt their reputation. Rush is in another situation, I think, and such disclosures can't be good for his reputation.

Too bad.

There are ads on TV all the time where you can get a sample of Viagra without ever going to a doctor. Methinks this is a political vendetta meant to embarass Rush.

Perhaps some reference to the Viagra?! Hey, Rush said this morning that he didn't know how he got Bob Dole's luggage.

One thing I've learned from Rush - when talking to a liberal - is to remember to have a sense of humor. In addition to saying (this a.m.) that he didn't know he had Bob Dole's luggage, he just made a comment that he got the viagra at the Clinton Library Gift Shop. I love Rush. He makes me smile!

Viagra is an important safety drug. Whenever you are lost, just take it with iron pills and you will always know which direction is north.

Another factor to consider is the charge of hypocrisy on Limbaugh's part. The DU crowd is having a field day with his problems, dredging up his past remarks condemning people with drug problems such as Jerry Garcia, Kurt Cobain, etc., and politicians like Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton, with their sexual scandals. Many people on this forum criticize Ann Coulter and Michael Savage due to their abrasive style, "bomb throwing" rhetoric, claiming it to be harmful to the conservative cause. Limbaugh is perhaps becoming a potential liability, though for different reasons.

The appearance of hypocrisy can be devastating politically. A few months ago, the Democrats used the talking point of a "culture of corruption" in connection with the conviction of Congressman Cunningham for bribery and the Jack Abramoff influence peddling scandal. However, with the suspicious activities of Congressman Jefferson and allegations against Congressman Murtha coming to light, the Democrats have backed away from their recent allegations of GOP corruption.

Limbaugh's bad judgment in his personal affairs may well impair his ability to champion conservatism.

You equate a bottle of Viagra to bribery and murder? Are you from DU?

Rush boffing prostitutes in the Dominican Republic; or prostitutes ANYWHERE?

I don't think so!

I'd be more interested in the passenger manifest for his flight, but thats none of our business.

"There are ads on TV all the time where you can get a sample of Viagra without ever going to a doctor. "

Nope. You're not paying attention to the ads. You have to go to your doctor. He'll give you the free sample.

Even the online sources, if they're in the USA, have a doctor who writes prescriptions in the background.

Viagra is a prescription drug. No prescription, no sample.
