MIAMI, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, issued the following statement today in response to several inquiries by the media:
While going through routine Customs inspection of luggage at Palm Beach International Airport upon his return from an international trip, Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs agents after they noticed a non-narcotic prescription drug, which had been prescribed by Mr. Limbaugh's treating physician but labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes. After a brief interview, Mr. Limbaugh was permitted to continue on his journey.
Law enforcement officers have the ability to show discretion. Cops give out warning instead of tickets all the time for speeding. They also give out warnings in other situations such as a family party getting too loud. It's just good police work.
Do you think that cops arrest or ticket someone every time they engage a member of the public? Have you never seen a cop tell someone to move along rather than arresting them him for loitering?
Using discretion is not the same as ignoring laws.
Rush ignored laws.
Nice strawman. No one has asserted that Limbaugh should have been given a pass because he is rich or famous.
Thanks! That clears up a lot.
Your welcome and good night!
It's not clear that he did.
Yes, they have...please read the thread before you post. Thanks!
That is the basis of this whole thread, HOW could they do this to someone like OUR IDOL Rush. Its not like he is Joe Blow.
I have and have not seen one post that claims that Limbaugh should be treated differently because he is rich or famous.
Please cite the post number.
The basis of the thread is that it a minor incident was made into big deal. No one has called for special rules for the rich and famous. In fact, most have asserted that this only happened because of Limbaugh's position.
It is very clear that you haven't read this thread. Nor has JeffAtlanta.
There are many Rush apologists...and there are many of us who think he was completely stupid about the scrutiny he is under and didn't even take the simplest, common-sense steps to protect himself.
I must emphasize, however, that you have not read the threads.
"I wonder what the ethics say about a physican that would issue a script for someone and use a false name in place of the person for whom the script is for?.."
In what way is protecting a persons identity unethical?
Sounds about the same as Ann Coulter registering to vote using the address of her realtor instead of her own.....for privacy reasons.
Is there something in the water in Florida, or in the heads of celebrities who think minor little laws don't apply to them.
Under the circumstances I can't imagine why he would risk Rush having a complication in his monitoring.
It is not illegal for a doctor to provided Prescription. This is going now wear. This is harassment plan and sample.
Let me get this straight. If I get a prescription and the twit behind the counter types it wrong, I've committed a crime?
Have you seen the idiots working in Doctor's offices and pharmacies?
And, if I get stopped at the airport, they broadcast what kind of ass cream I use?
Why the hell are we wasting air on liberals? Is there a reason to even consider negotiating with these little ass wipes?
(who cares, move on, we all get old and if this gives him pleasure, whatever.)
Anyone that has read my posts over time knows I have little use for the egotistical Rush. Go back to my first post in this thread, he broke the law, no matter how minor a law does not matter. Too many that post here feel he was singled out or should have been given a bye. I do not think that way. He should be glad they only delayed him 3 hours, if I was the cop, he would be in jail on probation violation.
Thanks for info.
And you're right about Rush! Great line!
Agreed on the backfire! This will mobilize the Republican/conservative base.
People talk about police abuse and "driving while black." This sounds like Rush's offense was "flying while conservative."
Next time someone talks about Watergate and "dirty tricks," I will remind them of this - as well as the National Guard memo.
If these things had been done to a liberal we'd have an outcry like you wouldn't believe.
