Hillary touts Democrat unity on Iraq
Washington times ^ | 6/24/06 | Donald Lambro

Sen. Clinton said yesterday that Democrats emerged from the Senate debate on U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq "more united" than ever behind a conditional-exit strategy in the war that has divided her party. In remarks before the NDN, a new centrist-leaning Democratic advocacy group, Mrs. Clinton avoided the criticism she had earlier leveled at anti-war lawmakers seeking a quick pullout of all U.S. forces within one year. This time she offered only words of praise for the widely differing withdrawal positions offered by liberal Democrats in the Senate. "Although unity is important, it is not the most important value. I think it is a tribute to the Democratic Party at this moment in time that we are honestly and openly struggling with a lot of difficult issues facing our country," the New York senator said. "The Democrats may have different views about how we succeed in Iraq, but we are together and unified in fulfilling our constitutional responsibilities to engage in serious debate, to ask the difficult questions and to offer honorable and responsible positions," she said. Earlier this month in a speech to the leftist Campaign for America's Future, whose members are bitterly opposed to the war, Mrs. Clinton drew boos from her audience when she said Democratic proposals to set a rigid public deadline for a troop pullout was not "a smart strategy." Yesterday, Mrs. Clinton praised Democrats for challenging war policies in the past, pointing to Harry Truman who led a Senate committee that investigated wasteful military contracts in the Roosevelt administration during World War II and to Democratic Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas who held hearings critical of President Johnson's decisions in the Vietnam War. "I am proud to be a Democrat. Democrats are doing what they should be doing in a democracy," she said.

"I am proud to be a Democrat. Democrats are doing what they should be doing in a democracy," she said.

Like undermining the POTUS in a time of war? Putting down our troops? Calling Americans terrorists and Muslims freedom fighters? Shrillary makes me sick but I hope she runs for President, her polarizing personality will guarantee another 8 years of republican leadership.

"conditional-exit":
1. move troops out
2. terrorist's move in
3. blame the failure of a democratic Iraq on the fact that
Bush had no exit strategy.

I bet Lenin had to do this a number of times prior to 1917.

I think it is a tribute to the Democratic Party at this moment in time that we are honestly and openly struggling with a lot of difficult issues facing our country

Take the issue of abortion for example. No one is "for" abortion, we all want fewer abortions, but look we can't go as far as allowing someone on the supreme court who actually doesn't believe in it.

And another thing, we support our troops and want them back home with their families where they belong. If Iraqi's are slaughtered after they leave, at least we hope it won't be as bad as the number of Vietnamese who were murdered when we pulled out of that quagmire in Vietnam.

Unity?
Vote #1 NO - 93
YES - 6

VOTE #2 NO - 86
YES - 13

Is that democratic unity in favor of the war, in favor of pulling out now, in favor of pulling out sometime this year, in favor of pulling out sometime next year, or in favor of pulling out sometime this decade?

RATS holding hands isn't 'exactly' unity - is it?

"Conditional-exit strategy" is to "cut and run" what "earned path to citizenshp" is to "amnesty".

I don't think Truman was challenging FDR's policies when he tried to prevent waste and fraud during WWII.

"Centrist-leaning Democratic" is code for "disguising what we really mean with moderate-sounding verbiage."

"The Democrats may have different views about how we succeed in Iraq, but we are together and unified in fulfilling our constitutional responsibilities to engage in serious debate, to ask the difficult questions and to offer honorable and responsible positions,"

Is it actually possible to say less with that many words? The only thing I hear in that is more of the same cut-and-run foreign policy, and tax-and-spend domestic policy, that has turned the Democrat party into the corrupt, dysfunctional, left-wing criminal entity it is.

Hmmmm. I guess she was pretty concise after all.

I understand what she is saying. She is simply employing a less commonly-used meaning of the phrase "more united" - one that means "not at all united"...

"Democrats come out of this, I think, with a unified message that we want success in Iraq, we want the Iraqi people to have the stability and security and peace that they have voted for. We want their government to be able to deliver that," [Hillary] said.

Liar, liar, pantsuit on fire! If this is truly the dems' message, they have a strange way of getting it across by demanding that we cut and run from Iraq.
