"Don't paint all boomers with the same brush, many of us realized that SS was a rip-off for us as well as for those who come after us."
Hello,
Well said. Putting people into defined boxes is a tactic of the Left, not of Conservatives. Let's see: they have the "poor", "rich", "minorities", "elderly", "homosexuals" "children", "corporations", "oil industry", "middle-class", "lower-class", "upper-class" and the "whatever, we will label it and define it and there will be no variables, no difference between any of it's members, because we say so".
Glad to be here, MOgirl

I will take SS on the very first day that I am eligible and invest it every month. I expect to live another forty years and I am beginning to relish the thought that some of the x-slackers here will be getting up everyday so I can golf. If you are healthy, why wouldn't you elect to wait until age 67 and take the higher payout? Have you run the numbers?

You think I'm mad? Wait till you see my generation when we are the ones working. I'm starting to enjoy the thought of you whining for the rest of your life. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. Maybe you went through the new math courses, but the old math shows that there are more boomers that vote than any other group. Sad thought for you and your little revolution.

there are more boomers that vote than any other group. Sad thought for you and your little revolution. Voting isn't the only means to fight this. "Atlas Shrugged" is already happening. More and more of my generation is refusing to pay into the system at all - I know a lot of people working under the table, and so are refusing to pay into social security. It's only going to expand.

But having some money may get you access to some protective resources those with money won't have access to. Money is paper. Money is gold. Money is what the ruler says it is. I don't expect that my money will help me in a conquered America. My money will be compromised in a socialist "progressive" America.

If you survive the period in which America is conquered, IF America is conquered, then I agree.

I loved teaching. Matter of fact, I won a lot of awards teaching. Local, State, National, and the international tech teacher of the year. It was my health that made me quit early.

Juvenile logic at it's finest. I'm really going to enjoy seeing you little revolutionaries trying to save, invest, buy homes with all your under the table income. Good luck.
It really sounds like you are in college with the views you espouse.

One thing that is rarely mentioned in these stories is the transfer of wealth that will happen when the parents of these baby boomers die and leave their estates to the baby boomers.I think that is highly overestimated. My wife's parents passed and left the house to the youngest son. The insurance benefits were $21,000 divided equally among 3 children. Big deal. My dad has passed in 2003. Mom purchased a smaller house valued around $500,000. That is her sole asset of any worth. Splitting that with my sister and accounting for my high tax bracket, it will mean the equivalent of a single year's salary after taxes. Again, big whoop. I've saved far more in my retirement accounts.

The "trust fund" is in gubmint securities - akin to writing IOUs to one's self.
There is no trust fund.
There is no trust fund.
There is no trust fund.
You know that and I know that, but sadly - few Americans are aware.
To: cajungirl
Well, I can certainly understand your sentiment and I am not trying to say you're wrong. But the "little bastards" didn't earn the money, my wife and I did. But to be practical, we can realistically spend everything since we don't know what the future holds. I just told my kids not to count on any large inheritance.

Yeah and if pick the right numbers, I can win the lottery.
Your simplistic college idea is a joke.
How are you paying for school? Parents, student loans, etc??
