I don't search or seek other right-leaning websites, so I can't agree or disagree about the opinion here that FreeRepublic is "antiquated".
As a supporting member since August 98, I think we've gone for Model T to M5 quality. (partial to German imports).
For as many people posting during important live threads this site rocks in terms of speed and information...Rathergate comes to mind. as does the Shuttle breakup.
I'm sure Jim and John keep this on the cutting edge technologically.

I am an addicted Freeper.
Here I find more about what is going on in the world than any other place I can imagine. To me this is the best site on the Internet. If it became a subscription or fee based site I would probably pay for a while but the quality of the site would deteriorate quickly. Not everyone who posts now would pay the fee and we would lose the eyes and ears we once had, eventually we would be deaf and blind and there would be little reason for any of us to be here.
If there were some kind of "icon" or other "title" that would allow those of us that donated a small amount to use when we posted perhaps we would all be inclined to donate more frequently. There are a lot of us here mostly lurking around, a small amount from a lot of us would probably go a long way.
Keep the "Free" Republic Free.

There are many things that could be done to improve FR but putting up a subscription wall is not one of them. As many other have pointed out search engine saturation draws in
MANY new users.
I would like to see more development to improve FR...
- Rewrite to generate valid xhtml/css code. This would put less of a bandwidth strain on FR servers.
- Implement a WYSIWYG posting feature for those ingorant of html and to clean up code
- etc...
One site FR could learn a lot from is
Digg... I am
SURE there are many loyal Freepers who would offer their services for free to make these things happen but ultimately it is JimRob's choice since it is his project.
