WASHINGTON, June 22 - Under a secret Bush administration program initiated weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, counterterrorism officials have gained access to financial records from a vast international database and examined banking transactions involving thousands of Americans and others in the United States, according to government and industry officials.

This has gone on long enough and I'd be quite surprised if all but the most ardent Bush haters in NY aren't rather disgusted with the NYT as much as we are. They're at ground zero, after all, and if they prefer to play politics over saving lives, that's on them.

I know you are being serious. But a lie is hard to keep secret. Then you have to tell another lie and another to cover....you know how it goes.
If this is indeed a planned misinformation campaign and it's being kept well running and is effective.....I'd certainly be most impressed. But I also know America hating, Bush hating leftists...

Ok, can you give me any realistic example of papers you would keep in your home, not government issued, that would be the only copy available? In essence, you are saying to heck with the 4th Amendment. Hillary is smiling. I am not.

I'm just basing it on some historical information I read lately.
Many of the "leaks" during the cold war and WWII were intentional misdirection. It only took a few people in on it to make it happen and the information that was leaked stood for years...and in some cases still stands Generally, they are not outright lies, but a spin on the truth that leads someone in the wrong direction.
In any case, I may be completely off the mark and it's not a personal thing with me as much as an intellectual exercise, so to speak. There is absolutely no doubt that there are many Bush hating leftists all over the government. I can can't stomach the Wilsons and the Clarkes of this world, to name a few.
Both (sometimes all) sides play this game and I just can't help but wonder sometimes. Especially when you see that in the end, the administration makes things happen just about the time you think all is lost. It's almost freaky.

Wasn't it just reported the other day by Byron York that a staff aid to Sen Hagel also worked on the Kerry Campaign and had close ties with Rand Beers??

The RATS probably just wanted to identify potential political donors, LOL!

I thought this was another attack against the Swiftvets
To be honest I wish it was. We can always fight back the attacks against the swiftvets and they can handle it anyway, but giving out secret information is unbelieveable. I swear the terrorists my be laughing their a$$es off. If we get hit again, it will be our fault as a society.

Well, I think the easiest example would be getting the Iraqi government to where it is now.
Days before each major announcement, there have been myriad articles, naming inside sources, saying that whatever task was being worked on had come to a complete standstill and was now unaccomplishable.
Starting with the original voting all the way through writing the constitution. We would hear about how inside sources said things were never going to go anywhere, they were on the brink of civil war, it was taking to long, not going to happen, nope. Done, stick a fork in it.
Within days, there would be an announcement and the task had been accomplished.
Another example: The surveillance information comes out. Big firestorm. The press running willy-nilly. Then a bunch of conspirators are arrested in Canada and Florida. Now, that may mean that we had to get them prematurely.
But it's just very interesting to watch that kind of pattern in the WOT, time after time. Watch for the timing on this stuff.

Yes, I think the full committee was given the intel.
And I wonder if the Dems will play the game they've played before and lost with regard to this newest revelation about financial transactions.
Will the Dems go on television to complain they weren't briefed only to have the American people find out they WERE briefed? They've pretty much played that game out, I think.

But it’s okay according to NYT to commit treason just to spite elected politicians.
