The terrorists have found they can't intimidate Americans, so the next best thing is to make the Iraqis fearful enough to tell the Americans to go home.
Sort of like the liberals telling all of their "victims" that the conservatives want to starve school kids, etc. because true conservatives won't back down.

TERROR!
Who will want to go to work? They are in a last dicth effort trying to force people to look at the US as the cause of these acts. If the US leaves, they would be safe.
And the left will keep supporting the terrorists.

How on earth would factory workers deaths help the terrorists cause. This makes no sense to me. In the same way that the media and the left wingers turned Vietnam into a disaster, and how the media and the Left has tried to take every war/military operation started by a Republican president and to turn it into Vietnam. You see how Senator Dick Turbin (Dumbass-Illinois) already turned the horrific death of two young soldiers into a bash on Bush. This, the same guy that claimed we were like Nazis, Pol Pot, or the Soviets - for turning the air conditioning on and off at Gitmo.
Would to God - and I mean this seriously - that same treatment (turning the A/C on and off) been given to those two soldiers, instead of what happened to them. I wish Turbin were up for reelect sooner than 2008. I want this POS out now.

It's a show of force by the new AlQ leader in Iraq. I guess quantity matters.

How on earth would factory workers deaths help the terrorists cause. This makes no sense to me. It's a scare tactic ... Zarqawi did the same in the beginning .. it didn't work and now he's dead as a door nail

Good morning.
"How on earth would factory workers deaths help the terrorists cause. This makes no sense to me."
How did the killing of the kids in Beslan help the Chechins?
The ROP murderers are trying to terrorize the Iraqis out of resisting them and to show that they are still a threat.
For the 80 factory workers they are a threat. You can't hide this many prisoners, so they have probably already killed them. This will rebound on the murderers.

It helps the terrorist cause this way.
Would you send your wife, or childen to work if you thought it wasn't safe?
Would you go to work if you thought a man with an automatic weapon...dressed like police...showed up and marched you out, knowing that you will never be seen or heard from again?

They want to create such fear in the population that the new government is pressured to tell the U.S. to leave.

It is a show of force, an escalation of the violence, to prove that Zarqawi's death was not a serious blow to them.

One more thought: The abductors will probably say that this is in retaliation for something we (the Americans) have done, e.g., killing Zarqawi, Haditha, or whatever. This is their standard M.O. They know how to play the Western media like a fiddle. The try to convey the impression that every atrocity they commit is actually caused by us, hoping to demoralize us and create further opposition to the war. And their strategy is very effective with liberals. Quite simply, liberals are no match for them.

The mere fact that this was a factory making a product means that Iraq is a producing economy. The terrorists don't want any successful economy transpiring in Iraq. They don't want Iraq to be a successful country. This kind of intimidation is done to inject fear into Iraqi citizens so they won't want to go to work and strive for a free Iraq.
To: GottaLuvAkitas1
Well....we know one thing. They aren't going to haul or hide 80 hostages for very long. :( Very sad.

How on earth would factory workers deaths help the terrorists cause.
The US offers peace, hope, and a future. Al Quada (terrorist) can not. Peace, hope, and a future comes from businesses willing to invest in Iraq's future by bringing jobs to the people. If the people are working and earning a wage, they can have hope and a future. Kuwait is a decent Middle Eastern model.
Terrorist (Al Quada) know that if they can create fear into the Iraqi Police (who gets bombed daily), the Iraqi Soldiers (who get bombed daily), and now the people who just want a regular job that the fear will cause serious problems for the US and the new Iraqi Government.
In the face of all this, you still see Iraqi's lining up to be Police and Soldiers though. I would say that the terrorist are under estimating the Iraqi people. I think that if the terrorist keep hitting the people, the people will turn on them (like Zawarwi).
I think we will clean this up. It will take time and if we stay we'll git r done.
