Sen. Hillary Clinton has thrown her support behind "network neutrality regulations that conservatives say mark the first major attempt by the federal government to regulate the Internet.
In a mass e-mail to supporters, Clinton writes: "I want to tell you a little bit about Net neutrality, why I believe its so important to our democracy, and what you can do to help.
In the Net neutrality debate, cable and telephone companies that provide Internet service, including AT&T and Verizon, are pitted against major Internet players like Google and Amazon and large-scale users, like the left-wing MoveOn.org.
The Internet providers are lobbying to create a two-tiered Internet in which Web sites that pay them large fees would get priority, including faster loading.
Users like MoveOn and Clinton support Net neutrality legislation that would require all Web sites to continue to be treated equally.

Don't forget sales taxes on e-commerce!
That had slipped my mind, and if the Feds start dipping, the States are sure to follow.

I like your thinking, and reason #45673 is one of MC^ squared of the number of reasons.

On this point, taxes on e-commerce, I think the States will lead the way. The Fed will merely make it OK for them to do so.

GMTA. Ever since the Clinton Curse years, free information exchange has been Hillary's bane. The question was never 'if' but 'how' would she attack the forums.
Now we know.

"Net nuetrality" is nothing other than the Googles trying to protect their business model in which the telecom/cable network providers are prohibited from having tiered services (for content providers like Googole) while Google incorporates tiered services into what it offers.
As usual, when liberals are demanding something you know there's some hypocrisy in there somewhere.

Continue to be treated equally? That is news to me. I pay a lot for my high volume sites but nearly zip for the low volume ones.

Remember this little gem? Hillary calling for a 'gatekeeper' function on the Internet. This was not long after the drudgereport broke the Lewenski scandal:
"We're all going to have to rethink how we deal with the Internet. As exciting as these new developments are, there are a number of serious issues without any kind of editing function or gatekeeping function... ." 1 Hillary Rodham Clinton
She is dangerous. How would you like a Hillary 'gatekeeper' approving or editing your posts on FR?

And just so no-one misunderstands, even honest people need a lawyer at times, and even the guilty are entitled to defense- I'm just saying that we are over-lawed, over-taxed, and over-regulated nearly to death.Amen! :)

Steve Forbes wrote a great article opposing Net Neutrality in the recent Fortune Magazine--I recomment it. Government egalitarian intrusion and regulation will not encourage competition--and will result in bigger, more controlling govt.
Combine that will Hilarity's support of Net Neutrality--and its easy to see what side to support.

"Clinton writes: "I want to tell you a little bit about Net neutrality, why I believe its so important to our democracy, and what you can do to help." The Leftists are always so insistent in saying that America is a "democracy." America is not a "democracy" and was not set up to be a "democracy." Republicans fall into saying this nonsense too.

I'm very suspicious of anything that is supported by AT&T and Verizon. Basically, these are calcified old-style companies that care little for innovation; their business model relies on trying to achieve monopoly, or close to monopoly status.
Where I live, broadband is a duopoly - only Comcast and Verizon.
