Loney says camp closing because of his homosexuality

Former hostage James Loney is accusing an Ontario Catholic camp he once worked for of closing its doors because of his homosexuality.

James Loney alleged that a youth camp closed its doors in an act of discrimination.

The closure of the Ontario Catholic Youth Leadership Camp by the Knights of Columbus Ontario State Council, which finances the camp, was an act of discrimination, Loney told a news conference Tuesday.

Loney said he and his supporters struggled with the decision to go public with the allegations, but finally decided to come forward.

"We are doing this because we care about the church, we care about young people and we care about the kind of church they are coming into," he said.

But he added, "We can't prove this. This is a concern that we have based on the sequence of events."

Loney claims the council's chairman said during a phone call on March 31, 2006, that concerns had been raised that the camp was promoting a homosexual lifestyle, and made specific reference to Loney. Shortly after, the camp closed.

The phone call apparently happened a week after Loney made national headlines when he revealed his sexual orientation and introduced his partner, Dan Hunt, on television.

Family kept ex-hostage's sexual orientation secret

Loney's family and Hunt had decided against publicizing the couple's relationship while Loney was being held hostage in Iraq, fearing it could jeopardize his life.

In a written statement, the Knights of Columbus denied Loney's sexual orientation was a factor in their decision to pull funding.

The organization said the camp closed for a review of its mission, vision and administration, and it may reopen next summer.

About 2,200 children typically attend the one-week camp every summer. It began in 1991.

Loney, partner to be honoured

Loney's allegations come the same day he and his partner are to receive the "Fearless" award during a gala ceremony marking Pride Week 2006 in Toronto.

The award, which is also the theme of this year's pride festivities, is for their perseverance during the four-month hostage ordeal.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty will present the award.

DUuuuuuuUH?

No, the camp closed its doors because it could no longer get liability insurance, and the parents cancelled their kids attending the camp.

What a moronic beaver this POS is!

Get thee to a camp that hath Gay Parents. See if they will let their kids attend.

"James Loney alleged that a youth camp closed its doors in an act of discrimination."

Perhaps it was discrimination in one of these senses of the word:

1. a. Able to recognize or draw fine distinctions; perceptive. b. Showing careful judgment or fine taste: a discriminating collector of rare books; a dish for the discriminating palate.
2. Separating into distinct parts or components; analytical.
3. Serving to distinguish; distinctive: a discriminating characteristic.

Perhaps it was discrimination in one of these senses of the word:

Yes, legitimate discrimination as the Catholic Church teaches (maybe illegal in Canada?):

Some Considerations Concerning the Response to Legislative Proposals on Non-discrimination of Homosexual Persons

II. Applications

10. "Sexual orientation" does not constitute a quality comparable to race, ethnic background, etc. in respect to non-discrimination. Unlike these, homosexual orientation is an objective disorder (cf. "Letter," No. 3) and evokes moral concern.

11. There are areas in which it is not unjust discrimination to take sexual orientation into account, for example, in the placement of children for adoption or foster care, in employment of teachers or athletic coaches, and in military recruitment.

13. Including "homosexual orientation" among the considerations on the basis of which it is illegal to discriminate can easily lead to regarding homosexuality as a positive source of human rights, for example, in respect to so-called affirmative action or preferential treatment in hiring practices. This is all the more deleterious since there is no right to homosexuality (cf. No. 10) which therefore should not form the basis for judicial claims. The passage from the recognition of homosexuality as a factor on which basis it is illegal to discriminate can easily lead, if not automatically, to the legislative protection and promotion of homosexuality. A person's homosexuality would be invoked in opposition to alleged discrimination, and thus the exercise of rights would be defended precisely via the affirmation of the homosexual condition instead of in terms of a violation of basic human rights.

Same old rhetoric - if gays don't get their way they invariably claim discrimination. The lesson of liberalism - if you are not happy and want more play the victim!

"Nothing wrong with legitimate discrimination."

Absolutely nothing. In fact in our day to day lives we are often called upon to be discriminating. In choosing our friends for one thing. A criminal may have good in him somewhere, but that doesn't mean we should have one at our homes or "hang out" with him. Same with drug dealers.

Maybe they left the second "o" out of this guys name!

That remids me of an episode of the Simpsons:

Bill Clinton: At first you don't succeed, keep complaining til your dreams come true.

Marge Simpson: That's pretty lousy advice!

Bill Clinton: Well, I'm a pretty lousy president.

This is merely the entitlement mentality blossoming in the self-proclaimed degeneracy community. Now that they're forcing civilization to 'accept them as normal', they feel they're as entitled as any other pseudo minority. Canadian courts (read sickening liberal fools) will likely force the Knights to pay these degenerates a continuing salary to promote their degeneracy to young people.

Thanks for posting that. I have been pushing the true meaning of "discriminate" for years...the true meaning, not the marxist word-play for one of the greatest gifts our Father gave us...

If a person can use dicrimination and Discernment (another gift only thru Him)in their lives, a lot of trouble and heartache could be avoided.

Thanks again.

The "Fearless" Award. Gay Pride week Toronto 2006.

Ontario PremierDalton McGuinty will present the award

There were many who many have voted against Premier McGuinty's Liberals. They had hoped though, he would then fulfil his promises. The jury is still out.

On decisive issues such as Caledonia and indeed regarding Loney, he has missed the bus. Loney has long left the working class city of Sault Ste Marie. Unlike many others, he has found the secret. That secret is how to avoid the uncompromising position of a steady day job.

One might say, good on him, who wants to labour for 35 years steady and enjoy a pension? Some do, some do not. A local opinion network here published a photo of Loney at an Air Show. It was in Southern Ontario. Loney and a companion, flung themselves down on the run way in front of an aircraft.

Family stuff these Canadian air shows- mostly celebrate civil aviation. I draw this conclusion. Loney thinks the world is all about him.

Appearances deceive many Canadians. The man harbours a spite. That he cannot follow Trudeau and his dictum, too bad. The destructive element of many homosexuals should be pointed out. Dog's in the manger.

Yet another Canadian outrage!

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty will present the award.

Just bloody typical of those beaver-fearing, beer-swilling hosers!

Dang Canucks still get cabin-fever every spring, only now with decorator catalogues they just spruce up their dwellings instead of going on a killing spree!

"Dang Canucks still get cabin-fever every spring, only now with decorator catalogues they just spruce up their dwellings instead of going on a killing spree!"

So, I guess we all tried to sneak another gay Canadian story through hoping I would not notice. Two observations. It does make you wonder if, maybe, Canada does have more gays than a normal country. Second, perhaps the new conservative government should have given the gay Mountie file, and the gay tourist recruitment file to the Knights of Columbus.
