BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- At some Presbyterian churches the Holy Trinity -- "Father, Son and Holy Spirit" -- will be out. "Mother, Child and Womb" is in.
Delegates to the national assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted yesterday to "receive" a policy paper on sex-inclusive language for the Trinity, a step short of approving it. Church officials are enabled to propose "experimental liturgies" with "alternative phrasings" for the Trinity, but congregations won't be required to use them.
Besides "Mother, Child and Womb" and "Rock, Redeemer, Friend," options include:
"Lover, Beloved, Love"
"Creator, Savior, Sanctifier"
"King of Glory, Prince of Peace, Spirit of Love"
"This does not alter the church's theological position, but provides an educational resource to enhance the spiritual life of our membership," legislative committee chairman Nancy Olthoff, an Iowa laywoman, said during yesterday's debate on the changes.
The assembly narrowly defeated a conservative bid to send the paper back for further study, which would have killed it.
A panel that worked on the issue since 2000 said the classical language for the Trinity still should be used, but Presbyterians should seek "fresh ways to speak of the mystery of the triune God" to "expand the church's vocabulary of praise and wonder."..

Conservatism, OTOH, is rooted in the concept of using violence to enforce what they perceive to be God's will. That's my opinion.
Something with horns is having a field day.

One (ha) "good" (ha, ha) thing about this is that if they use some goofball invention instead of "the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit," at least no innocent, unsuspecting person will wander in off the street and make the unwarranted assumption that he's in a Christian church. So bring on the genderblender goddesses! === Holy She-he-it.
We have been going to an Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) which we have been very happy with. The EPC is solid in its Christian foundation and traditional biblical beliefs, and the church and its congregation has not wavered from their very conservative values. A good sign is the numerous W stickers and support the troops ribbons on the cars in the parking lot.
The EPC broke off from the mainstream Presbyterians beginning in the fall of 1980 when a group of pastors and elders held meetings in St. Louis, Missouri. These leaders had become increasingly distressed by liberalism within their denominations. They wanted to form a church that took seriously the words of Scripture, the theology of the historic confessions of the faith, and the evangelical fervor of Presbyterian founders. They envisioned a denomination that was truly evangelical and truly Presbyterian; hence the name.
Le's see if my munging the url achieves a reply to the main article...
Anyhow, holy spit. Literally. A Jesus ptui.
I think what you meant to say is that God was not created, but ever-existing without beginning or end, and thus Father, Son, and Spirit are co-eternal.
Haven't heard that in a while. Wonder how many others get it?
Not denying all the excesses and abuses (and stupidities, treacheries and cruelties) -- but keep in mind that the Crusades were defensive. Built on the early preaching of the original Apostles, Christianity had extended from Mesopotamia to Gibraltar by the arly 7th century. The forces of Islamic Jihad invaded and occupied fully 2/3 of Christendom with fire and sword and was threatening the very walls of Christian Constantinople.
It was at that point that the Byzantine Emperor urgently appealed to the West for help.
The point was never to convert the Muslims by force. The point was to defend the Holy Places and the Christians of the Easr. For an excellent, short and accurate summary, you can read historian Thomas Madden at:

Exactly. The key difference was that the Arians believed that Christ was created after God.
Agreed; there was an interesting dialogue on another forum by these folks within the PCA. Your take on them as being like RINOs/Libertarians is interesting, but still, they are liberal whether you hold them to the standards of theology or politics. Just my opinion; ymmv.
Those Presbies!
"Faggy, faggier, and faggiest".
That wouldn't explain the sleestaks...
One question, how can these morons construe HOLY SPIRIT as being gender biased??? Father and Son yes I can see that although I do not agree with their blasphemous views but HOLY SPIRIT???
Fem-apostates resent the role of the Holy Spirit in the conception of Our Lord in the womb of the Virgin Mary --- and the fact that the Nicene Creed calls Him "the LORD and Giver of Life."
"Conservatism, OTOH, is rooted in the concept of using violence to enforce what they perceive to be God's will. "
Where did you get that idea?
Not really. You can't post a reply to Post 1, but that's no different than any other comment we need to pull.
True, it makes it more difficult to reply to the person who posted the thread unless they participate later in the discussion, but you could always type in their screenname manually.
It's a convention that comments on the main article go to post 1, and "view replies" will show them all. I wish there was a way to still do this, as well as (while I'm speaking of it) a way to find out where a banned ID has made comments in the past.
Perfect analogy.
