Base to Bush: Stop illegals
The Washington Times ^ | June 19, 2006 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 06/19/2006 10:23:58 AM PDT by kellynla

Top conservative leaders have written President Bush telling him to drop his insistence on a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens and instead support the 85 percent of congressional Republicans who want to tighten law enforcement first.

Signers include William J. Bennett, Robert H. Bork, Ward Connerly, David A. Keene, Phyllis Schlafly and a number of think-tank academics and pundits.

The immigration debate is the first major issue on which Mr. Bush finds himself opposing a majority of Republicans in Congress and depending on Democrats to deliver a victory. In their letter, the conservatives tell Mr. Bush to side with his fellow Republicans in Congress or risk repeating the 1986 immigration law that promised enforcement and amnesty but delivered only the amnesty.

"Border and interior enforcement must be funded, operational, implemented and proven successful and only then can we debate the status of current illegal immigrants or the need for new guest-worker programs," 39 conservative leaders write in the letter, to be released today. A copy was obtained yesterday by The Washington Times. The letter was addressed as well to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee.

Across the House and Senate, 85 percent of Republicans voted either for the House bill, which is an enforcement-only bill, or against the Senate bill, which dramatically increases immigration and offers a new right to citizenship for illegal aliens.

"That's pretty overwhelming among congressional Republicans. That shows a distance from [Senate bill sponsors Sens. John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy] and what the White House has been saying recently," John Fonte, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute who is helping organize the letter, said in an interview.

My friend who teaches in the OC says the second generation illegals are the problem. Their parents bust their a$$es to make it in this country and then their kids basically sit on their a$$es and do nothing.

Excellent stuff as always......just too bad the mentally disconnected crowd on this thread can't quite come to grips with the deleterious effects of their free trade at all costs philosophy.

The older, middle-aged Hispanics I have no problem with. They own the restaurants, the Hispanic grocery stores and bars and have lived in my community since the 1970s. The teens and young adults despise authority and openly flaunt their heritage. Wait till the Mexican holiday (Sept 17th) rolls around. Hundreds of them will be walking the streets with their flags.

Dead on Arrival? So they are not going to do anything about it? I'm not voting anymore...I'm done.

Honorable MNJohnnie-san, your wisdom--it makes me
wonder, wonder wonder, in sort of a haiku way:

The sky in your world,
What color is it today?
Taupe, puce, chartreuse...plaid?

Returning to the illegal discussion is a loser for the president.

TOO BAD.

Nice compilation of facts, kelly. This also puts it into sharper perspective:

The following briefly explains why illegals creep across the desert and perpetuate the lie about taking so-called "low-pay jobs Americans won't do," and cravenly use their children as a shield to coverup all manner of illegalities and to prevent deportation.

The US taxpayer is subsidizing aliens' every need 24/7, morn til night: Using multiple phony SS #'s, forged documents, and multiple IDs the invaders collect multiple $4500-$5400 EICs from the IRS by declaring several names/jobs - just by going $1 over the income limit. They also line up for EINs, ITINs, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, welfare and food stamps.

US Taxpayers are subsidizing invaders' daily food intake, housing, reduced mortgages, free medical care, free education, reduced in-state tuition and out of state tuition. We also foot the legal bills when they start suing if we don't provide these goodies pronto......etc., etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseaum.

The 850 pp monstrosity Senate bill (secretly written in El Presidente Vicente Fox's hacienda assisted by reconquista groups) provides that invaders will be paid a prevailing wage, Earned Income Tax credits, medical benefits; housing benefits; WIC; anchor baby citizenship; legal representation and amnesty from back taxes owed.

The Senate atrocity does not meet Constitutional muster b/c Vicente, and the reconquistas, could care less about the US Constitution. They want only to get their greedy hands on the US treasury and to take over the US government with the vote, or by violence, if necessary (their own words and signage at the recent protests).

All of this explains why aliens will do anything, pay anything, endure anything, to sneak over the border to get so-called "low-paying jobs" They have extortion dancing in their criminal heads......plans to rip-off US taxpayers every which way they can.

.....and billions of our tax dollars go back to Mexico where El Presidente Vicente gets a nice chunk of it---and so do the federales in Central and South American banana republics who help their compadres cross the border.

RE: "having seen how a world class..."
I think you got a point there. A part time employee of mine, by birth a Mexican, but 100% USA* in his heart & papers, told me about some changes that are on going in Mexico. The old practice of a supervisor taking a bite from his subordinates pay is dying out. Hopefully, the elites in Mexico will catch on. But they'll only do that when they're confronted with a large number of people who have 'seen the Mountain', so to speak.
*Ironically, he thinks Bush is a lousy Presidente.

Both parties are essentially bought and paid for by the highest bidder. We desperately need term limits and a line item veto....

I used to help conservative candidates. Our fund raising was from local institutions and by "local" political interests. Then along came term limits. New candidates with no established funding channels, but desperate for funding, began to rely of the money channeled down from state and national fund raising. That money did not come without strings attached. On the bottom line, they now vote like they are told or the party funding gets switched to another. What we now have is "strung out" politicians, who can't live without their next contribution "fix" doing what they are told by their supplier. They don't listen to their base, they listen to their party boss.

Past time for these daily temper tantrums to stop.

If you define "tantrums" as, advocating positions you disagree with, then yes, most conservatives on this board and almost every other conservative forum throw tantrums almost daily. If you define a "tantrum" as "a childish display of rage or bad temper", the only tantrums I ever see on this board are from you.

".... the Republican House leadership all ready said this is DOA."

Which means, exactly, NOTHING!

I have seen LOTS of "Dead" bills passed in the final hours of a session, amended into other bills, etc.

I called both my senator and congressman this morning, NO AMNESTY!

"Maybe, he'll come around after elections?"

I seriously doubt it. Seems to me from watching and listening to him closely on this issue, he genuinely believes that there is no harm in offering citizenship to anyone who wants it and is willing to break the law to get it. At best, I am hoping that after the elections, President Bush will get out of the way of those who see unlimited invasion for the threat that it is to this Great Country.

Because their parents taught them that breaking the law and receiving welfare pays. My observation, from living in an area in PA where there's lots of illegals, is that many are still speaking Spanish years after entering this country and refuse to assimilate into society because they know the liberals will pander to them.

I agree that most are here to have a better life but they don't mind US taxpayer dollars to do so.
