Gads. At least he's asking for help. But it's pretty pathetic that his city needs to be put under virtual martial law simply to be functional.

Maybe he should look at the qualifications of the people they are hiring to do that job in the first place.

This is BS. Nagin wants the State to pick up the tab for law enforcement.

"We're looking forward to the day when ... this city returns to being one of the safest cities in America," Nagin said.

When the h#ll was New Orleans "one of the safest cities in America"?

Wake up and smell the chocolate, Ray.

violence was back on the rise in a city that had been plagued by violent crime even before Hurricane Katrina drove residents away last year.

wanna start a pool on how long before it will be declared "Bush's fault!"?

The "leaders" in N.O. had their chance to tell the criminal element evacuated during the storm that they weren't welcome back, and enforce it. But they sat on their hands for the better part of a year, so the opportunity was lost. That, and Nagin's shameless "Chocolate City" pandering, have lost the battle. It appears as if N.O. will be no less a cesspool going forward than it was before Katrina. How sad.

How come the National Guard can patrol a city without running afoul of the posse commitatus provision, but we're told it can't patrol our porous border with Mexico?

Several cities/communities in my area got some of the N.O. floodees. No surprise that serious crimes increased.

We need to rebuild N.O. so these perps can go back home.
