SEVERAL years ago, left-wing cartoonist Ted Rall published a cartoon mocking the ``terror widows" -- the bereaved of the Sept. 11 attacks as well as Marianne Pearl, the widow of kidnapped and slain journalist Daniel Pearl -- as a bunch of greedy and shallow attention-seekers. The outrage was universal. A number of press outlets, including The New York Times website, pulled the cartoon. Subsequently, when the Times and The Washington Post stopped carrying Rall's work, conservatives called it a victory for decency.
Now, the right has its own Ted Rall in the infamous Ann Coulter. In her new book, ``Godless: The Church of Liberalism," Coulter takes a whack at the ``Jersey Girls," four Sept. 11 widows who have been highly critical of the Bush administration. She refers to them as ``self-obsessed women" who ``believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony," and then concludes with this zinger: ``These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief -arrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much."
A number of conservatives, including prominent Republican blogger and radio talk-show host Hugh Hewitt, have denounced Coulter's statement. Unfortunately, many others have rallied to her defense. Radio and Fox News talk-show host Sean Hannity has mildly suggested that she may have gone too far, but has avoided condemning her outright and has given her plenty of airtime on his show.
Bill O'Reilly, the host of the Fox News show ``The O'Reilly Factor," has been harshly critical of Coulter's comments. Yet several of his conservative guests vigorously defended her. Republican strategist Karen Hanretty opined,

You got me on this one - you were not defending Rather... More comments soon.
I thought her book was named godless not Harpy Jersey Gals?? Apparently Conservatives have to write as boring as her or they are over the edge. Heck maybe the Saint Jersey Broads will send their money back?

And you have sided with the one line detractors!
Go sell some more AC books. I love it!
I can respect your intellect, your debate skills, your analytical mind, but I'm not going to agree with you because we're not debating on the same playing field. That's the best I can explain it -- We will talk again on different subjects. Not this one. (Oh, and your type of voice is needed - very needed to keep some of us from going to far afield - but on this issue, your cautions are noted, and that's it. You and I will never agree on this one... )
A good friend of mine is extremely leftist. In all other aspects he is nice man and a gentleman to others.
When Ronald Reagan was be being buried, he bemoaned the "excessive spending" of taxpayer's money to send him off. He even said "they should just dig a hole and chuck him in". When I called him on it, he pretended he was just joking. But it was clear he was not, these were his true thoughts.
The Wellstone funeral is another notable example of the complete lack of class the left frequently displays. Peronally, I considered the behavior of the attendees and speakers at that to be much worse than what AC said.
My point of course is that crudity is a lot more prevalent on the left, they have absolutely nothing to complain about.
Michael Mooreon got lies out that are still parroted today. Ann is being non-PC to get the truth out. You may not agree with her tactics, but the basic point is you cannot criticize the left's "saints" because of thier "sainthood" and she kicks down that wall by calling them money grubbing political hacks. Now they are all being exposed from the Jersey Broads to Kerry which is critical for debate.
Who knows maybe someday we can talk about race and racism??

Yeah right.
Fair enough. Thanks for being decent about it.
Moore may have his lies parroted by those on the left, but they are the types that will believe the worst of Bush no matter what. What counts is election day and the bottom line is, the majority of the voters did not fall for his lies. As a matter of fact, I think his attacks on Bush actually garnered sympathy for the president. (That is why I cringe when Ann personally attacks the Jersey Girls.) Ann went beyone being "non-PC" and you know it. It amazes me how many people can defend her smear tactics as if she "had" to use them to get the truth out --- as if the "human shield" were some top secret "strategerie" that could only be exposed by Ann making personal attacks. As I have said ad nauseum, the voters were able to look beyond this tactic long before her book was published. The Jersey Girls campaigned for Kerry and he lost. Most people paid no attention to them. Thanks to Ann, now people are paying attention to them. Furthermore, as I have noted repeatedly, there were people like Bill OReilly taking on the "victims" before her book came out. Bill got a lot of headlines for standing up to Letterman over Cindy Sheehan -- but he was able to criticize her without personal attacks. Sorry, but the repeated line that she had to do these things to get the truth out is wearing thin.
Sorry, Jersey Girls, but you can either claim "poor innocent victim" status and be immune from attack or claim "political attack dog status" and be fair game but you can't have it both ways.
Great comment.
