Masked Gunmen Took U.S. Troops, Iraqi Says
The Washington Times ^ | Jun 18, 2006 8:27 PM EDT | KIM GAMEL

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- An Iraqi farmer said Sunday that he saw seven heavily armed gunmen capture two American soldiers during an attack on a road checkpoint south of Baghdad, while U.S. troops searched for their comrades for a second day.

Another Iraqi said the Americans were offering $100,000 for information leading to the abductors, but the U.S. command denied that.

The White House promised to do everything it could to find the soldiers and said it had a message for anybody who may have taken the two men: "Give them back."

Gunmen, meanwhile, kidnapped 10 bakery workers in Baghdad, and a mortar attack killed four people in the capital. Police also found 17 bodies around the city, including four women and a teenager handcuffed and shot in the head - apparently the latest victims of sectarian death squads.

While suffering the new blows to his effort to restore security in Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pushed ahead with negotiations on a plan for reconciling the country's ethnic and religious communities.

But his proposal, which would include a limited pardon for insurgents according to a draft obtained by The Associated Press, has been snarled by stark differences on that issue among the various groups, legislators said Sunday.

U.S. troops, backed by helicopters and warplanes, fanned out across the "Triangle of Death" south of Baghdad searching for the two missing servicemen, but the military offered no new information after saying Saturday that at least four raids had been carried out.

The predominantly Sunni region is the scene of frequent ambushes of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi troops.

It is to be devoutly hoped that these soldiers are found, unharmed.

Both the insurgents AND Americans should feel this way.

Gunmen, meanwhile, kidnapped 10 bakery workers in Baghdad,

They then advanced to a home for the blind and shot two crippled women.

Police also found 17 bodies around the city, including four women and a teenager handcuffed and shot in the head

Later that day, investigators discovered that up to a dozen puppies had been crushed under the wheels of a pickup truck, and a pair of kittens had been drowned in a village well.

apparently the latest victims of sectarian death squads.

... apparently the latest victims of puerile, gutless, barbaric cowards who wouldn't dare to confront their victims like real men and instead shoot down bakery workers and drown kittens.

Aside from the likely U.S. troops' rescue operation, these soldiers are capable of finding ways to escape or even subdue their captors. They were trained for that. Unless they're too scared to do so or circumstances does not allow them.

Continued prayers that the providence of God surround these men and the whole situation, and that good will prevail over evil. May His name be glorified.

Amen to your post. Prayers for our brave and noble soldiers. May our Lord have mercy and put a hedge of angels around them. Confuse the enemy, Lord Jesus and may your hand be upon our soldiers.

And, Amen to your post as well!

May all of His children be "Prayer Warriors" who diligently and fervently utilize His precious and powerful gift of prayer on this important "front line" in Christ's holy name.

Agreeing with you both in prayer. Am also praying Daniel chapter 3 and believing that the Son of God shall be the "fourth man" walking with them in the midst of this fire.

That actually took place IN Babylon, didn't it?

I would like to know the circumstances they were led away in. A M240 or 50 cal is mounted on every HumV. They also have M16's or M4's. I take nothing awa from these men, but I have been through basic as well, and, as you said, never surrender. I would like to know how 7 insurgents walked up to the truck without geting f****** up. I work with Marines here and they ask the same question.

I pray for these men and hope they do everything in their power to find them. If heads are cut off on TV (they are probably NOT the ignorant), then let the bodies hit the floor. What happened in Fallujah will happen in Baghdad, Ramadi, and ever other rat hole in this country.
