Qassam lands near Sderot library, 2 suffer from shock
Two people suffer from shock as rocket lands near home of hunger striker and public library; teacher says: 'I left my little son under my daughter's care; when the rocket fell she jumped on him to protect him with her body' Shmulik Hadad
At least four Qassam rockets were fired by Palestinians in northern Gaza toward Israel Sunday evening, but only one landed in Israeli territory.
"I ran to my house in panic, and my daughter said my little son was sleeping. She simply jumped on him and lay over him to protect him," Sderot resident Yael Tayari told Ynet after a Qassam hit the city.
The rocket landed only a few meters from Tayari's home. Two people suffered from shock and were treated by Magen David Adom paramedics.
The rocket landed in the Neveh Eshkol neighborhood, not far from the city's public library. Tayari, a teacher, has gone on hunger strike to protest the ongoing rocket attacks, and the Education Ministry ordered her to stop working.
She was eventually allowed to go on protesting outside of work hours.
Tayari said she spoke with her 17-year-old daughter who was taking care of her younger brothers. "She told me, 'we all heard the Red Dawn alert system and I heard the rocket land with a boom over the phone. I was afraid, because it was so close. We are now home and we can smell the explosives from the Qassam rocket," Tayari said.
Earlier, Palestinians fired three rockets from northern Gaza at the western Negev. According to security sources, the rockets landed in Palestinian territory. One report said a Palestinian woman was lightly injured by the rocket attack.
Meanwhile, in the protest tent, a hunger striker passed out opposite the home of Defense Minister Amir Peretz in Sderot, and Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene.
Chava Gad, who lost consciousness a short while ago, was taken to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.

Sderot: No One In, No One Out
21:12 Jun 18, '06 / 22 Sivan 5766
by Hana levi Julian
Residents in Sderot have had it with the Kassam attacks and the governments sluggish response to their need for protection. As of Monday morning, the city will shut down for 24 hours in protest.
City officials decided in an emergency meeting Sunday evening to raise the stakes in the struggle to get the government to protect their residents.
Were closing down the town. No one will be able to get in or get out, announced Mayor Eli Moyal after he met with city council members. As of tomorrow, Sderot is on strike, he said.
The city will be completely sealed off and no one allowed in or out, including public officials --- among them Defense Minister Amir Peretz, a long-time resident, who will be likewise stuck.
In addition, said the mayor, the citys children will start their summer vacation Monday. Report cards will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Education. I assume they will have to solve this problem, said Moyal. I dont want to be responsible for this as well. The school year will end one day early for high school students and 11 days early for youngsters in still-unprotected elementary schools.
The last straw came in the hours just before dawn Sunday, when the citys Rabin neighborhood was left in the dark after a Kassam rocket hit several electricity poles, leaving residents powerless for several hours.
The attack hardened the resolve of the mayor and city council members to take their protests to the streets. It was decided at the emergency meeting that a number of residents would also begin a camp-out in Jerusalem across from government offices.
None of the government ministers care about Sderot, charged Moyal. The residents are exhausted. They cannot continue without the government doing something. Hunger strikers, meanwhile, continued their fast across from Peretz home, where they have subsisted for more than a week on sugar water and vitamins in an effort to force officials to take more effective action to end the rocket attacks.
The government was set to approve the transfer of NIS 7.5 million on Sunday for summer camps and other educational activities for children in Sderot. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority also scheduled a day of recreational activities at the Yarkon national park for 750 children from the Kassam-battered town, funded by donations from private companies.
It is not clear how organizers of the event will deal with the citys strike. Amid plans to entertain the children, however, is the sobering reality that construction on the fortification of schools and public buildings is yet to begin. Peretz told reporters last week that he expects the reinforcement to be completed for most of the schools by September.
Officials have yet to address the issue of protecting the children from Kassam rocket attacks while they swim in a pool or play outside during the newly-funded summer camp activities. Moyal recently announced that the city would not hold summertime activities because of the Kassam threat.
If the government cannot provide the city residents with security, it should resign or say it outright, said Moyal.

And those launching the rockets couldn't care less that 3/4 of them landed on their own territory, or even killed their own people. More martyrs that way, and if then can have shot at killing Jews, well, that's gravy.
Kuds. Is that anything like Skud?
Killing the attackers alone doesn't inflict any pain on the arabs; there are plenty more where they came from, and no one will miss them, not even their countrymen.
Only the loss of territory registers with them. The smart folks at State have had it right all along; land is the key to peace in the middle east. They just had it backwards. Violations of the border should cost the arabs in land, every time. Stop violating the border, and they stop losing land.
Negotiating with PLO and Hamas is an embarrassing waste of time. They didn't come to palestine to make peace or build a country or any of that. They came to make war.
They will call up pro- Palestinian (No such thing) media and have them fabricate a story blaming it on the evil IDF.
Notice pro pali media (MSM) doesn't even bother reporting these rocket attacks, unless they blow themselves up, then tey do their best to blame it on Israel targeting poor innocent Palistinians enjoying a day at the beach, and playing games like "Blow up a bus full of Jews" like all "normal" children do.
Mark Rosenzweig, an avowed Marxist librarian, and the other activists within the ALA, continually put forth resolutions that openly portray Israel as a villain that destroys Palestinian libraries. To date, there is no evidence of the IDF ever having destroyed a Palestinian library despite PLO accusations. Meanwhile, when a Palestinian suicide bomber at Hebrew University in Jerusalem murdered an American librarian, ALA leaders made no comment. Nor did the ALA take exception to what Palestinian libraries teach children about Jews and Israel, instilling and inciting hatred and war.Source: Librarians for Terror, by Lee Kaplan, Front Page Magazine, 24 Aug 2004. And there is much more to read in the article about the ALA regarding this issue.
Koffi calls for sanctions to allow palirats to fire their rawcats from inside Israel territory, preventing this shawk to the innocent throat cutting murder worshipers!

MKs slam diversion of funds to Sderot school protection
Members of the Knesset Finance Committee have criticized Defense Minister Amir Peretzs decision to allocate some of the funds originally earmarked for securing Israeli communities surrounding Gaza to the shielding of Sderot schools.
Of the NIS 50 million (about USD 11 million) earmarked for the communities, NIS 44 million (USD 9.8 million) were diverted by Peretz toward the protection of 24 Sderot schools. (Ilan Marciano)
