With the internet, and cable TV, this is no longer a "local" race, when you are talking about Congresswienies.
My husband and I are watching War Stories with Oliver North...and tonight's story is about Hamburger Hill in Vietnam...
My husband is a Viet Vet...wasn't there, but in that general area at a different time...
I commented to him, that all of this story, about the hell of Hamburger Hill's fight...was for NOTHING....
AND, if the Murtha, Kerry and all of the dems have their way...all that our troops in Iraq have gone through would be for nothing, as well...
It just makes me so angry.

I loved this move by Tony Snow. He really didn't "grab" anything, but just asked to see it in a rather insistent way and then decimated the headline. If no one noticed, this was the rollout as Tony Snow as a major spokesman for the Administration, which indicates a lot of trust and appreciation of a man who, I think, is worthy of it.
I just watched and it was a really good program on loyalty. Said the name calling and hatefulness in politics is terrible and we must return to patriotism.
We can disagree but repect the role of leadership and pray for them.

They are way past that. The Dems let Murtha think that his opinion mattered. They will play hell pulling him back in now. Chris Matthews and others are so driven by their hate of Bush, they will keep giving him face time no matter what.
The accident was on an iced-in bridge north of Denton in the one ice storm we had this year. It was what they call black ice--very dangerous because you can't see it.
But he wasn't killed by the original accident. It was after he got out of his jeep on the bridge and the good samaritan guy came over that they were both hit by a truck that also slid on the ice. I understand the truck was going fast and probably braked because of the accident causing it to slide.
By the way, Texans CAN drive on snow, but nobody can drive on ice.

One of the reasons this is my favorite thread (after the dose) is the respectful attitude generally displayed by posters to each other.
If only this were true throughout Free Republic.
I noticed and I agree with you 100%.
I have faith. Tony IS worthy of it. And the man he serves in the White House is worthy of his best, which Tony will give to him and the country. George W. Bush has 2 and 1/2 years left in office and he has nothing to lose... except, perhaps, the future of the human race. He sees it that way. He knows what the stakes are and who our enemies are (both foreign and domestic). He doesn't view his job in crass political terms, though he is cognizant of those factors. He sees what needs to be done and he is doing his best to save us all.
The President brought Tony in not because he needed yet another talking head to "play the game" in Washington. He needed someone who understood what the stakes are and who knew what this moment in history is about. President Bush knows that Tony gets it. This isn't a "gig" for Tony or George Bush. It's the pivotal moment in our times. And they are worthy of our respect and support.
This is gonna be an interesting couple of years. I, for one, am committed 100% to support this President and his mission. Call me a BushBot, if you want. I've chosen sides and I'm completely content with that choice. My quote in my high school year book is still one of my favorite sayings. I learned of it from Teddy Roosevelt quoting it:
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly; so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.
But it was replaced as my favorite in 2001 by the final lines of President Bush's inaugural address:
After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
I believed that when I heard it for the first time and I believe it even more now. We, here, must do our duty, just as George Bush is doing his.

You can easily make a nose smaller, but it's very hard to make one longer.
If Waxman went into a plastic surgeon's office, we could probably hear the screams from wherever we are.

I loved Gary in "Of Mice and Men" with John Malkovich.
30 years ago, I was having lunch in Los Angeles Farmers' Market next to CBS studios where Cher taped her show. Suddenly all heads turned as someone said her name. I just remember seeing the back of her and huge mane of black hair as she and entourage swept through the market.
I think he got carried away super sizing. LOL!
Sinise in "Of Mice and Men" was spectacular, as was Malkovich. I definitely link the two of them as among the greatest actors of our generation.
100 years from now Sinise, Malkovich and Cher will each be remembered, thanks to our modern technology. Sinise and Malkovich will be studied by aspiring actors. Cher won't.
