Ads Expose Chris Cannon's Support for Illegal Alien Amnesties

Campaign Highlights Inconsistencies Between Record and Rhetoric

WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Team America PAC has launched a radio campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the campaign is to make Republican Primary voters aware of Representative Chris Cannon's support for illegal alien amnesties and other benefits for illegal aliens even though he represents his record as having been tough on illegal immigration.

On his website, Congressman Cannon claims he's never supported amnesty for illegal aliens and never will. In fact, Cannon has not only supported nine amnesties for illegal aliens, he's actually co-sponsored six amnesties himself. Cannon claims to be tough on illegal immigration yet he's co-sponsored two bills that would reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition. He's voted multiple times against aiding police officers in the apprehension of illegal aliens. Cannon is currently co-sponsoring a bill that protects illegal aliens from prosecution for social security fraud.

Team America' Chairman, Bay Buchanan commented, "Chris Cannon is one of the most pro amnesty congressman in Washington. It is certainly understandable why he would choose to hide his atrocious record on amnesty from his constituents but that in no way justifies the hypocrisy associated with doing so. Utah voters have a right to know if their congressman is deliberately deceiving them, especially on an issue as critical to the nation as illegal immigration."

Team America PAC launched the ad campaign earlier this week in the Salt Lake City market. The radio spots use humor to expose Cannon's claim of being tough on immigration. Throughout the spot the announcer repeatedly asks, "Chris Cannon tough on immigration?" followed by the announcer's description of Chris Cannon's support for an immigration bill that's completely out of synch with most American's views. Over the top crowd laughter then ensues. The radio spot concludes by asking GOP Primary voters to support Cannon's Primary opponent John Jacob "to begin cleaning up the immigration mess Chris Cannon helped make."

The irony of this thread that Lou Dobbs is allowed to come on late to the right position, but when Chris Cannon does it, it's lets post his previous history.

Maybe Dobbs had a Dennis Miller moment. Maybe he started seeing how much of an impact illegals were having and decided to take a more populist approach, I don't know, but I welcome him speaking about illegal immigration despite being a johnny-come-lately.

Yes Dobbs and Cannon, two alike.

Republican candidate for Congress John Jacob appears to have violated federal regulations when he paid a Chilean couple through a shell company he may have helped them form. The couple, Oscar and Marta Silva, were in the United States on Oscar's student visa, and would not have been allowed to accept employment beyond part-time on-campus work for Oscar, according to several immigration law experts

That LIE, concocted by a marxist Democrat, has already been exposed and debunked here in this thread. That you continue to post it demonstrates how purposeful your slander is.

Distraction? You take a thread about Chris Cannon over to Lou Dobbs and call it distraction when somebody answers your attacks on him? You argue just like a liberal. All emotion and ad hominems.

I've asked you before. Are you one?

"Well exuse me for posting facts, if that's cracking up. "

Look I can post facts about Bolivian coffee production ... the point is whether it is relevent. who gives a flying wallenda about Cher's opinions, relation to Lou Dobbs, etc. Geez, that's People magazine-type stuff. I dont even watch Lou Dobbs. I dont care about his opinions, Cher's opinions, or what CNN decides to tell us ... they have ZERO relevence to the question of who is best to represent Utah folks in Congress ... unless Cher is happening to show up at a Jacobs rally or a Cannon endorsement, its a pointless sidetrack. Amusing, but pointless.

"I think you may have a future within nancy pelosi's office."

Good example of you cracking up, right here. I'm a lifelong activist Reagan Republican and hold a party office today. Why are you saying this, after we've been on the *same side* on a number of threads on FR and probably agree on 90% of things?

Calm down. If you want to help Cannon, defend his record and lay off the attacks and ad hominems. You'll get farther.

Uh spiffy that ain't a lie. It was "concocted" by a newspaper(Daily Herald) that IMO, is symapthetic to john jacob, but did the Christian thing and told the truth, unlike your heroes tancredo and bay buchanan.

No. The mantra has changed from "Sensenbrenner endorsed him" to "Lou Dobbs is Cher's best friend." Hillarious...

Why do you have to even ask. Just review Dane's posting history on Free Republic and the answer will crystal clear. He is truly a liberal troll.

Then why are you on the rah-rah wagon for lou dobbs/cher/tancredo/bay buchanan bandwagon in your animus towards good conservative Chris Cannon.

JMO, I'll take James Sensebrenner's endorsement of Chris Cannon, rather than your tancredo/lou dobbs/cher endorsement of john jacob.

No need to, one sane person can take on the cher/lou dobbs loving crowd on FR, with half their brain tied behind their back.

Even by the slightist chance that the voters of the 3rd Utah Congressional district get caught up in bay buchanan/tancreso madness and vote in jacob.

Why don't you just let the chips fall where they may be. If Jacob loses I have no problem with Cannon winning re-election. I'm sure that House Republicans and Utah conservatives will put pressure on him so he won't go astray.

Okay, I'm now convinced that you're getting laughs out of this. Knowing that repeating "tancredo/bay buchanan," "backstabbing," "good conservative" among many other tired lines over and over again. You're doing it on purpose.

Dane never allows a discussion to settle on the merits. It must at all costs be directed onto the margins where Dane can summon entire armies of strawmen into the fray.

Yes Dobbs and Cannon, two alike.

Well, I'm resigning myself to just letting the race play out. Like I said, if Cannon supports amnesty, House Republicans and conservatives will be on him like flies on dookie. If he voted for HR 4437 then it's just as good too. Per post #131, the first link in WOSG's post, Jim Robinson absolutely nuked the opposing arguments as to why Cannon shouldn't get re-elected. If he's good enough for JimRob, then he's good enough for me.

LOL! And your heroes tancredo/bay buchanan are not trying to take out a good conservative such as Chris Cannon on purpose.

The direct quote from the article is this:

"Cannon says he voted for the law [HR4437] only after he was promised it would be watered down in conference committee. "

This article described Cannon's HR4437 vote in the context of Tony Yapias' group's endorsement of Rep Cannon:

http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635200155,00.html
"Tony Yapias of Proyecto Latino de Utah is among those working on a list of candidates who support comprehensive immigration reform — and a hit list of opposing candidates who don't. ... On a federal level, all three of Utah's congressmen voted for a measure to crack down on illegal immigration, but Republican Rep. Chris Cannon garnered the Utah Latino group's endorsement. Cannon has said that he voted for HR4437 to move the debate closer to a conference committee, where he hoped to produce comprehensive immigration reform.
Joe Hunter, Cannon's chief of staff, said "we're very pleased" with the endorsement but added, "Hispanic voters are not single-issue voters.
"This is not just about immigration; they are worried about jobs and education, just like everybody else," Hunter said.
Yapias said Proyecto Latino is also endorsing Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who last week opposed comprehensive measures because of his work on the DREAM Act, to give undocumented youths a way to earn legal status through education, or military or community service.
Yapias said Cannon and Hatch have both been outspoken and taken flak, but it's hard to say where Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson or Republican Rob Bishop stand. He said Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, has also been somewhat mum.
"It's either black or white for me," Yapias said. "Is the candidate supporting our cause or not?""

The bottom-line, FreeReign, is that voting for HR4437 is not a shift in Cannon's position - he still, as always, is a believer in the 'comprehensive' solution to illegal immigration, one that includes legalization of millions of illegal immigrants. (cf. his sponsorship of AgJobs bill and guest worker programs).
