N. Koreans Ordered To Raise Their Flag At 2PM, and Listen to Broadcast

N. Korean leadership ordered its citizen to raise their flag and listen to their (government) communique from TV in the evening, according to Sankei Shimbun (of Japan), quoting Japanese government sources.

The paper said it is paying attention this development because it could be related to the launch of Taepodong-2.

We made it! :)

He surely had us on the edge of our seats. Wonder if he'll still launch it or if he's just playing his game.

Close. The Dr Strangelove character was baed on Nazi rocket scientist Werner von Braun, who came to America after the war.

It's a very risky operation to remove the fuel from the rockets now that the fueling is complete, its very unlikely that it won't be launched in the next few days.

There were some sharper German, actually Prussian scientists who came here after the war. Or as they would say after displaying a week long mathematical argument on the boards, Yah, Yah,..If ve hahd dis methud bahck in the day ov da V-2, Ve'd all be speaking German now,,...Yah?

"Going on record" that they are going to try to launch a satellite?

I'll go on record as saying that they are likely to draw a bullseye around the outcome. If it orbits, that's what was intended. If it crashes into the Pacific, "bullseye"!

The simplest satellite orbit, a launch due east into a 41 degree inclination orbit is fraught with the danger of dropping spent rocket motors into or threatening close to the Hawaiian Islands, so they may aim a little to the south into a slightly higher inclination orbit, to avoid any "misunderstandings". (No, I don't think they're that daft.)

Glad you pointed that out. I vaguely wondered what they would do with all the fuel..

Wouldn't it be a hoot if we just shot down whatever they decide to launch? -I hope whatever it is blows up on the pad.

That'd be probably exactly right, although it doesn't look as if anything happened at the appointewd hour.

Or as Tom Lehrer sang back in 1965...

Once the rockets go up, who cares where they come down?
"It's not my department," says Werner von Braun.

Kaiser Wilhelm II had a withered left arm. He actually moved it around just like the character in the movie. Most photographs are altered to make the arm appear the same length as the right arm. The arm was at least one-tenth shorter than the right arm. Kaiser Bill shares responsibility for the deaths of tens of millions in the European wars of the twentieth century.

Thanks for the info. Some years ago I had actually been through Flagstaff and Sedona and enjoyed it (although I thought Sedona was a little too touristy). I had also wondered about northern New Mexico (I have never been there). What worried me was all those fires that seemed to break out everywhere and that got me to wonder if some areas not really close to the fires might have a lot of smoke. To keep it in topic, I guess we still don't know if North Korea can nuke the Grand Canyon or whatever.

Reports indicate that there was some rain in the area, the fuse got wet, and it won't light...
