MSNBC: Murtha Is 'Personal Attack' Victim, As Murtha Insults Rove's 'Fat Backside'
MSNBC/Newsbusters ^ | 6/17/06 | Brad Wilmouth

Posted on 06/17/2006 10:39:21 AM PDT by Coop

On MSNBC's Countdown show on Friday, substitute host Brian Unger featured a softball interview with Democratic Congressman John Murtha during which Unger queued up Murtha to attack the Bush administration's Iraq policy and Republican critics. The Countdown host bolstered Murtha's credibility by referring to his war record and labelling him a "traditional hawk" while he discredited White House advisor Karl Rove by negatively labelling him as a "partisan attacker trying to squash discussion about Iraq," and proclaimed "the Swift-Boating of the 2006 election has begun."

...

Murtha: "Well, it's just, it's a slogan. That's all. Here's a guy [Rove] sitting on his fat backside in an air-conditioned office talking about the troops. He doesn't have a clue what's going on in Iraq."

I have heard in the past that John Murtha refuses to sign Form 180. Do you know for a fact if he has or has not?

No, but neither have I. Will you?

Muthra was a division(?) intelligence officer. There is no way he should have been ever exposed to anything that would have merited a Bronze Star with a combat V or two Purple Hearts.

You can't be sure of that, and neither can I. If one had suspected the same of Alfred Mason Gray, he would have been dead wrong; young Al Gray served in Vietnam at MAF level, but was involved in things you will never read about. I don't suggest that Murtha is even in Gray's league, but we should not make baseless charges about something we cannot know.

As I said earlier, Murtha's record in Vietnam is irrelevant to his present treason. There is no need to go there; there is only the peril and dishonor of being wrong.

From your lips to the Minutes of Congress / Senate as an Official Record.

You are not alone.

Where do we find a Congressman or a Senator that will go on Record?

I suspect Murtha's Vietnam record will prove more "swift-boatable" than Kerry's was.

Coop, if Murtha himself and all the Murtha-rites weren't carrying his water as a war hero, we wouldn't be curious about it. What is this risk you talk about in researching said hero? If there is nothing there - there's nothing there.

Murtha isn't exactly thin, is he?

And Rove isn't fat. He has a round face, but he is not fat. Take a look at him next time he's on TV. However, Murtha has a fat *ss. He must not wear his glasses when he looks in a mirror.

The risk is in the accusation of him not earning his Purple Hearts or other medals/titles, and then you can't prove it. It's then your word against his, and you (we) will lose. I think the risk far outweighs the reward, especially considering all the damage Murtha is doing to himself with his despicable words and conduct nowadays.

I agree with your concept. However, my key words were "curious", "research", "question". He is advertised as having the expert word on Iraq because of his war hero status. All media reports lead off with John Murtha, war hero, former Democratic war/defense hawk, blah blah. Oh really? Seems I've heard that before about another demo and that makes me curious as to just how he arrived at that status. Did he earn the "tough on defense" from the defense contracts he allegedly steered toward his lobbyist brother's clients? Just questions questions questions about his expert status that he and his supporters are using to undermine the efforts in Iraq.

I have no problem questioning the media treating him with such reverence. I'd simply ask "How come you never refer to Oliver North as a hawkish, decorated Marine Corps veteran from Vietnam?"

If I were to run for political office, I would sign Form 180.

And if I thought anyone wanted access to it, for purposes of verifying my record being discussed in the public domain, I would sign it as well.

Why wouldn't you sign it if you were in Murtha's position, especially in light of the following...

But in a 1996 newspaper article, Fox questioned whether Murtha deserved his Purple Hearts, alleging that there was insufficient evidence of injuries and that Murtha was never confined to a hospital.

"Of course Congressman Saylor wanted to help if he could, but there was nothing in the service record to indicate the wounds were of any severity and the documents specifically indicated that next of kin was not notified in either instance," Fox told the Herald-Standard in 1996. "We were amazed that Mr. Murtha was asking for Purple Hearts for superficial lacerations," he added.

Murtha's accounts of his Vietnam War wounds may also conflict with the available U.S. Marine medical records obtained by the media.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on May 12, 2002, reported that "Marine Corps casualty records show that Murtha was injured in 'hostile' actions near Danang, Vietnam, on March 22, 1967, and May 7, 1967.

"In the first incident, his right cheek was lacerated, and in the second, he was lacerated above his left eye. Neither injury required evacuation," the Post-Gazette reported.

But an Oct. 26, 1994, article in the Herald-Standard quoted Murtha as describing two different injuries.

"I was wounded in the arm with shrapnel from a bullet that hit the motor mount of a helicopter. In the other, my knee was banged up and my arm was banged up when a helicopter was shot down from a very few feet," Murtha told the Herald-Standard.

A June 1, 1967 report in the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat quoted a letter that the newspaper indicated was sent by Murtha to his wife that same year. The letter apparently detailed yet another version of how Murtha qualified for one of his Purple Hearts. According to the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, Murtha's injuries involved his being "struck in the ankle" by a "shot that ricocheted off the helicopter."

The Swift Boating comment was made from fear.

The once invincible warrior is feeling the results of the knife thrusts that will render him disabled. He has no acceptable defense...... his political death is written on the wall in American blood .

What nerve! Rove most likely knows more in his little fingernail about what is going on in Iraq than this blowhard liberal piece of dirt knows in his whole pathetic body! If allowed back in power, these scum will destroy this country totally!

That's why I'm determined to work hard between now and November to send Murtha into early retirement and get some good conservatives elected/re-elected.
