Citizens group confronts sheriff on immigrants
'Copwatch' calls for sheriff to release immigrants from jail Friday, June 16, 2006 Members of a citizens group known as Copwatch protested outside Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office Friday morning. They held signs asking Arpaio to release illegal immigrants that his deputies and volunteer posse members have arrested. The arrests came under a state law making it illegal to conspire to smuggle humans into Arizona, or to conspire to be smuggled. Arpaio came down from his 19th floor office in the Wells Fargo Building to let the members of Copwatch present their complaints in person. They told Arpaio that he and County Attorney Andrew Thomas are misintepreting the law, which they claim was intended to apply only to coyotes, or human smugglers. Arpaio responded that with over two dozen immigrants already having pleaded guilty, the justice system has apparently agreed that the law is constitutional.

The thing is, since I DON'T know much about Moore, mainly because he's not one of the media's pets, I really can't comment about him.
However, people who don't live here in Arizona read a little article about the tough-talking (as well as self-serving and corrupt) Sheriff Joke and proudly proclaim how "lucky" we are to have him.
They don't know the half of it.
Please, do a little research, folks.
Read about the millions he's cost the state of Arizona because of the wrongful-death law suits he's lost.
Read about Bearup and Hendershott.
Read about the Saville kid that he set up.
Read about the Joe-boxer incident.
Read about Dan Saban, who dared to run against him in the last election.
You ask why he's still there? Because we CAN'T get rid of him. Read the Saban story and you'll see why.
Then after you've educated yourself a little bit about him, see if you still want the Jokester for your own.
Uhhh, he's only Sheriff of Maricopa County. We have lots more counties in Arizona, so one idiot isn't going to bring the whole state down.
He's MY sheriff, and I can't stand him.
I can readily tell you can't stand him, but to wish him harm. That's crappy and you know it.
It's all for show. And it's apparently working, because you guys are falling for it.
Okay, I hope he lives to a ripe old age...just not on my dime.
This guy is one of my hero's, I hold him in high regard.
He's like the Hillary Clinton of Arizona, only tough talking. We can't seem to make Hillary go away, and the same with Sheriff Joke.
You're not from around here, are you?
I'd like to find out if he increased the posse membership or it has remained the same, the posse gives us citizens in the "State of Maricopa County" a lot of manhours and volunteer for many things
Falling for it? I don't care if there is space or not. Tents are where they should be.
That's why it bugs me the Feds say they have nowhere to keep thousands of illegals if they start busting them. Sure they do - IN TENTS!
I know you aren't suggesting that crime levels are solely attributable to law enforcement. One major factor in this area is certainly illegal immigrants. So also is the court system.
Not this crap again!
Arpaio is not a good guy, just a camera seeking attention whore who abuses his powers on a daily basis for personal vendettas.
What he did to Saban will cost him dearly once it gets to court.
(preparing for ad homenim attacks, questioning my record, and patriotism, being called every name in the book...)
Don't forget Andrew Thomas. He's the county attorney general. Good guy. Tough.
Last guy that ran against him, Dan Saban started to mount a good campaign. Arpaio launched an improper investigation, went to the media and said that Saban raped his own mother.
Of course, none of it was true, Saban's headquarters were broken into and many of his supporters lost jobs and were subject to all kinds of intimidation and investigation.

I've sent lots of Arpaio supporters here, and its changed their minds.
