House Rejects Timetable for Iraq Pullout

WASHINGTON
The House on Friday rejected a timetable for pulling U.S. forces out of Iraq, culminating a fiercely partisan debate between Republicans and Democrats feeling the public's apprehension about war and the onrushing midterm campaign season.
In a 256-153 vote, the GOP-led House approved a nonbinding resolution that praises U.S. troops, labels the Iraq war part of the larger global fight against terrorism and says an "arbitrary date for the withdrawal or redeployment" of troops is not in the national interest.
"Retreat is not an option in Iraq," declared House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. "Achieving victory is our only option, for the American people and our kids."
"Stay the course, I don't think so Mr. President. It's time to face the facts," House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California answered, as she called for a new direction in the conflict. "The war in Iraq has been a mistake. I say, a grotesque mistake."
Four months before midterm elections that will decide control of Congress, House Republicans sought to force Republicans and Democrats alike to take a position on the conflict that began with the U.S. invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in the spring of 2003.
Democrats denounced the debate and vote as a politically motivated charade, and several prominent Democrats joined Pelosi in saying they would vote against the measure because, they said, supporting it would affirm Bush's "failed policy" in Iraq.
Do we know who in the House voted for the pullout?
frankly I'm surprised that many democrats voted for it
Duh. Where IS my mind?
All Democrats come in three flavors: 1) too dumb to understand the threat of terrorism; 2) more interested in defeating Bush than defeating terrorism; or 3) both 1 and 2 combined.
Jimmy Duncan's vote isn't a surprise to me. He's gone squish over Iraq, and it is disgusting. We need to retire this jackass Murtha RINO enabler.

"They would not tell a burglar what time they plan to leave their house in the morning, yet they are willing to tell the terrorists when we plan to leave Iraq unprotected."
....perfect analogy!

Isn't that like 100 votes closer than last time?
There were 5 pubbies voting no at one time, but they are allowed to come back and change their votes.
When you look at the text of the Resolution, it boggles the mind to see what these Congresscritters voted AGAINST:
"Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) honors all those Americans who have taken an active part in the Global War on Terror
(2) honors the sacrifices of the United States Armed Forces and of partners in the Coalition
(6) calls upon the nations of the world to promote global peace and security
(7) declares that the United States will prevail in the Global War on Terror"
THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR BEFORE THEY GO TO THE POLLS THIS FALL!
