SAO PAULO, Brazil An estimated three (m) million evangelical Christians have staged a huge rally in the heart of Sao Paolo, Brazil, demonstrating their growing influence in the world's largest Roman Catholic country.
Crowding next to sound trucks blasting Christian music, marchers wore T-shirts advertising their annual "March for Jesus."
The hymn-singing evangelicals walked to skyscraper-lined Avenida Paulista, Brazil's version of Wall Street, then gathered around a stage to hear Christian bands play.
Sao Paulo police estimated the crowd at three (m) million, double last year's estimate.
The march is held each year on the same day the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Corpus Christi, which is not observed by evangelicals but is a national holiday in Brazil.
This is very encouraging. I know several families who have been conducting medical missions to Brazil, and they've found the people very receptive there.
That said, I'm a little disturbed by some of the anti-Catholocism coming from the largest evangelical church in Brazil.
I don't want that to at all taint the size of this march or its purpose. I do think it's amazing what Christians can do when they stand up together in service and worship.
That's great.
That's great!
Exactly.
This is really excellent news!
Even today you'll run into the occasional "Calhoon" or "Harris" here and there along the Amazon. Interesting story.
Wow.. great news for today... Thanks! God bless you more!
Thanks tons.
Excellent.
AS I understand it, most of those evangelicals would be Pentecostal/Charismatic.
