June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.
The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.
Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."
Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

Thanks for the info. This is what's important - what the Iraqis themselves think, not the addled musings of self-styled pundits in America who don't really care what happens to Iraqis. If their reaction is overall positive, then that's great news.
Stay safe and well!
Either you believe lies, or you have a problem with telling the truth yourself.
This is not even CLOSE to what he said.
I think Allen will fade, as he is not very quick on his feet (although to be fair he hasn't had that much coverage so I could be wrong). Rudy and Newt would be massacred on the personal stuff (although Rudy is one candidate that might be able to tell everyone to get over it and ignore the press). McCain's nomination would show him as the media's favorite because they can target all of his past scandals, which is why I think they have been pushing his candidacy.
At any rate, I think after the dust settles it wil be Romney. Check with me next spring and I will let you know if I've changed my mind.
Look in the mirror!
Whoever said "Perfection is the enemy of good" understands the darkness pervading FR these days.
President Bush's vision of a free Iraq is unfolding before our eyes.........the true evil of Saddam Hussein and his deep ties with the terrorists who murdered 3,000 of our citizens being made clear.
This is not about 'mojo' (though I like the phrase).......this is about perseverance and patience, and refusing to be swayed by polls and popularity.
In other words, this is about CHARACTER and true LEADERSHIP.
Interesting. I heard him interviewed on radio a while back and thought he was very impressive. I don't know much about him at all, but I was struck by his radio interview. How ironic would it be for a GOPer from MASSACHUSETTS to win. Be pretty funny. Allen seems like a dullard to me, and I am strongly prejudiced against Senators. I don't believe true leaders subject themselves to being 1 of 100. That's why I think we get lots of governors as presidents, and so few senators. And in our republican system, governors make more sense anyway. So all that does put Romney in the running. We shall say. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
It must suck to be you.
There's a time and a place for everything. Nobody dislikes the president's immigration policies more than I do, but what you wrote is completely uncalled for. These are foreign policy victories to be celebrated.
The libs won't give him credit for anything. Those of us who have been his critics cannot be like that. We won't have an ounce of credibility. I salute the president and applaud his leadership. Well done.
You become more despicable with every post I see.
It is becoming clear to me that you need to kneel at the Cross of Christ and beg forgiveness and cleansing, for it is HE whom you mock, and not we. I will pray to that end, ray.
Well, if you're really interested, see my #77 and see if you still think so.
Forgive my ignorance here...........but what's a 'thumbdrive?'
To the Bush lap dog:
"How can it be a great week if he caved in to the enemy and said Guantanamo should maybe be closed - that it's bad for our (barf) "image" in the (barf) world?
Either you believe lies, or you have a problem with telling the truth yourself.
This is not even CLOSE to what he said."
I'm getting the impression that anything you don't agree with is a "lie". I read this posted in The Free Republic.
Tenacity (which comes from true leadership and moral courage) = Ultimate Victory.
"I'm really getting sick and tired of all the petty little snivelers who do nothing more than whine and complain."
Just because a citizen-FReeper who's been here much longer than you is concerned about an unprecedented invasion that will subsume our culture and our country doesn't make him a loser. Or LOSER! as you put it.
Military victories, judicial achievements, tax cuts, etc.--none of it matters in the medium-long run if the country we remember from our childhoods is not here to hand to our grandchildren.
You owe this guy an apology.
Illegal seems so harsh! Can we say undocumented from now on?
I think there are people who lurk around here, watching and waiting for any positive thread about the President and then pounce with their repetitive and unproductive complaints about the border.
The border is an issue but it's not every issue.
And/or faux documented.
This trip was an act of bravery that capped off a series of incredible events that have resulted in the perseverance and patience and STRONG leadership of President Bush.
THAT'S why it's so important.
The symbolism is unquestionable. No one said that it wasn't still dangerous in Iraq, but that doesn't take away one single bit from this incredible event. It was an historic moment of monumental proportions, and downplaying it, IMO, is very shortsighted on your part.
Is raybbr really a conservative. I think he bows to some single issue? I'm not sure what it is.
It isn't tax relief.
It isn't keeping our country safe from terror.
It isn't moral conservatism.
It isn't conservative Supreme Court judges.
It isn't accountability in schools.
It isn't fighting the environmentalist wackos (who would ratify Kyoto).
It isn't honesty and decency in the White House.
It isn't sticking to your principles regardless of the press, the dims and the whiners.
What the heck is it?
Help me out, here.
