HOW W GOT HIS MOJO BACK; BEHIND BUSH'S GREAT WEEK
The NY Post ^ | 6/15/06 | Clark S. Judge

June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.

The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.

Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."

Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

It is amazing how many so called conservatives jump on the stories floated in the MSM, without even LOOKING past the headline and searching for the truth. Why are they believing anything in the MSM anyway? They KNOW those folks are hell-bent on removing the President or making it impossible for him to do what he'd like to do.

That being said, I LOVE it when he goes around the media and gets the job done anyway!

"I don't get this. I agree that things are looking up for the president, but I don't get the fascination with this trip. In my view, the nature of the trip underlined not so much how well things are going in Iraq, but how dangerous things still are. If things were going great, he wouldn't need to fly in secretly with his staff in flak jackets. It was a good trip, but he's been to Iraq before. I don't see the Iraq trip as a piece of this puzzle."

Is that you Alan Colmes? I could have sworn I heard him say the exact same thing just a few nights ago.

Thank you for so courteously and magnanimously saying what so badly needed saying.

Sometimes, it takes effort..... I must confess.

I think that's a good oberservation SuziQ. Very likely the case.

This President doesn't let polls influence his good common sense. This President does what he says he's going to do. His position on immigration is unchanged since his 2000 campaign yet he's been voted into office twice. (No, Gore didn't win in FL, heheh!)

No President is going to perform precisely the way everybody wants him to on every issue. To expect so, is childish. Yet certain posters here apparently can't understand that it's better to get 75% of what we want vs. 25% or nothing at all. In fact, I think Ronald Reagan observed something very similar to that.

I don't care what you think. Your thoughts about me are about as worrisome as an eyelash falling out.

Sometimes I think they bow in prayer to the east (the White House) instead of to the cross.

Blow it out your shorts, bud. Just because you don't agree with we so called Bush Bots, doesn't make us any less conservative than you supposedly are.

Thanks for the ping Howlin to Lando Lincoln's comment. I totally agree with him. I'm sick of certain people always having to turn a positive into a negative. They might as well just go join the Libs since they sound so much like them.

On another note, it's good to see you back. Been thinking about you. Hope you are well.

His position on immigration is unchanged since his 2000 campaign yet he's been voted into office twice.

He never talked about immigration. He spoke of changing the U.S.

He spoke of a "new America" that involved Latin culture, journalism and music.

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. You are so right. I have felt like I have been on a site like DU with some of the posts here. I have enough on my mind without reading nonsense like that. My BP is high enough without reading stuff that sends it even higher.

Spare me your hair-splitting. And I've read enough of your posts already to see that you aren't worth the time nor effort toward discussion as you have no interest in acknowleging anything but your own narrow point of view.

Oh, rats. I didn't bow to Bush's plan. But, you did. Are you taking "latin culture" classes to fit in to the "new America"?

Every time I see DNC talking points posted to FR, I wonder why those posters are here.

I think you may be missing the point of the replies to your post. This thread had a specific topic and purpose. You clearly and intentionally, with lots of all caps, changed the discussion. Plus, you do provide a very negative outlook, no acknowledgement in your original post of anything positive.

Don't mis-underestimate GWB on Iran.

No, his position is the same. He never promised to put up a fence, deport illegals or anything else. And he's still be elected twice. Sticks in your craw I'd wager...

You are a prime example of the unseemly "conservative" I referred to earlier. Whether you are conservative or just a disruptor I have no idea, but your threadjacking, complete with repeated graphics posting is much like a toddler stamping his foot for attention.

This thread is about the excellent accomplishments on the WOT that have occured, Yet you continue to bitchmoanbitch about immigration.

I simply find you annoying and somewhat embarrasing to the forum. As I said, not worth the effort, so post away your retort, you may have the last word.
