HOW W GOT HIS MOJO BACK; BEHIND BUSH'S GREAT WEEK
The NY Post ^ | 6/15/06 | Clark S. Judge

June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.

The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.

Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."

Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

Thanks for the defense of me, Ohio. I couldn't ask for a better person to do it.

But don't worry about it. And, for heaven's sake, don't expect intellectual honesty out of some people. It's futile.

PS I think my brain IS past it's 'use by' date, but I don't particularly like to be told so.

Okay, a bit of a mini-rant here. Your post is PRECISELY why I have reduced my FReep participation by (perhaps) 90%. I'm not pretending that I am particularly missed, but I was once an active thread starter - not anymore. It is incredible to me how any thread can be bent into the issue du jour.

There are many on this forum now who are only a degree or two from being like a liberal..... good news is bad news, and everything is qualified with a "yes, but.....". Please don't become like that, FRiend.

The price is not going to go down.

They all know how to get the prices down, but they won't do anything about it. This issue has to be kept alive through at lest two more elections. The Democrats want to blame it all on corporations while blocking legislation that would free more energy sources. Corporation's bad. Nationalization of the oil companies good.

procuring nukes to destroy Israel

I don't really get this. If Jerusalem is such a holy place, why would they want to nuke it? Wouldn't the very thought of the act p*ss off the rest of the Arab world?

Yes, bad ones---but again, he never positioned himself as a champion of morality as Newt has IMPLIED he has.

The price is not going to go down.

There have been many, many, many articles here about new oil finds, new alternate energy sources, etc., etc. Just yesterday there was an article posted how the oil price was unsustainable at these levels. ALL VERY POSITIVE NEWS. So the statement above is just pessimistic nonsense that directly contradicts the majority of what's been posted in the last several months.

"Please apologize to altura for your incredibly rude response to her polite post to you."

No.

"Just for the sake of intellectual honesty."

Oxymoron, around here.

Good.

I would totally hate it if you apologized, because then I would have to be 'nice' and say, 'oh, that's okay.'

So thank you.

I so agree.

I get tired of the rudeness of some of the posters, too. It seems we've gotten a lot of the "knee-jerk" crowd that overreacts and then they get very rude and obnoxious if you offer an opinion that differs from theirs. These people started infesting this forum some time around 2004.

I think the President's trip to Iraq was a trump card. He played it over and over at yesterday's press conference. Everytime someone asked about the future of Iraq he was able to frame his answer in terms of the face-to-face meeting he had just had with the Iraqi government.

No talking head can trump that. A news anchor or pissant like Chris Matthews won't get a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister. They may get an interview but not the "head of state" summit that the President had.

I didn't realize it until I saw the press conference last night. He had the upper hand on every question. It was hard to believe so much could be covered in a five hour visit.

Oxymoron, around here.

Only when it comes to you, johnny.

You're double standard is pretty laughable, but typical.

You call for an apology for nothing, and then behave like a jerk to someone who made no offense, and refuse to apologize for your boorishness.

It's all here in black and white. Unless you delete your own posts, your intellectual dishonesty has been immortalized.

Don't you feel proud?

I think your assessment is right on target, Dilbert.

He was absolutely in control because he had proven the idiot left that they were wrong about everything.

I think they even tamed down because of it........their questions were lame and moronic of course, but they didn't quite have that haughtiness and bite they usually have......and when it broke through, he leveled it with the facts.

Monumental event, IMO. Historic and huge because of what it proved, and how it exposed the media/leftist lies.

I don't expect it from him, altura, but it needed to be stated for the record.

His response furthered my point.

I've followed your posts, replies to posts, and replies to replies, etc. It seems to me that if everyone thought like you (and me) we would have different and fewer problems. They don't, of course...there's a whole continuity of belief on Iraq and on W. On W, for example, there's his core base of support, say 25%, who are stout supporters. There's his base of opposition, I would guess 25% hard core RAT DU types. Politics is what happens in that middle 50%. They run the spectrum from highly persuadable to highly doubtful. They probably don't have a lot of time to follow news, and get what they get from the headlines.

This middle 50% has been hammered by the negative press and RAT mischief making. Probably 15-20% that supported Iraq initially have serious doubts because of the drumbeat of negativity. Having good news to report, and having it reported, makes all the diference in the world to that 15-20%. W's welcome refutes, in a full color way, the cr@p about occupation.

Some folks have no interest in the issues, they make their decisions based upon their read of the guy they hire to handle it. For a lot of those people, they'll get a reminder that W is a gutsy and daring guy. It reminds them of why they voted for him in the first place. Don't underestimate the power of likeability. It's wasn't Clinton's policies that kept him popular; it wasn't his being a scoundrel. He was a likeable scoundrel.

This was a devastatingly successful trip.
