Showing an even closer margin than a recent poll that had Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman ahead of Democratic primary challenger Ned Lamont 56% to 40%, the latest Rasmussen Reports poll show Lieberman with 46% to Lamonts 40%.
Maybe this would be a good time for Al Gore to give a stirring speech about how he was wrong to pick Lieberman and that he was deceived by faulty intelligence.
Lieberman is liberal, but he's an old style Democrat of the JFK / Truman type on defense issues. He's supported the war in Iraq and Bush. He's an old style pol who still believes that politics ends at the water's edge, and that foreign policy is in the hands of whoever is in the White House.
Is it possible that the 2000 Dem. VP nominee is fighting for his political life??? Is the lunatic fringe in charge of the Democratic party now?????
Truth is, he really should have lost in 2000 -- when he showed the utmost confidence in Al Gore's presidential bid by running for re-election in the U.S. Senate at the same time he was Gore's running mate.
i hope lamont wins the primary joe l runs as an independent and they split the votes and conn turns red
It's hype, to try and show momentum for Lamont.
Lieberman will handily win renomination.
Do you know who the DNC supports in this race?
I believe the DNC is still officially supporting Lieberman. But of course the moonbat wing is totally behind Lamont
If Howie Dean has any genuine influence there,I wouldn't bet the grocery money on that.
Thanks.
Connecticut does have a republican governor. I wonder if having Lamont beat Leiberman in a democrat primary would upset the independents enough to vote for the republican candidate.
I saw elsewhere that if Leiberman ran as an independent he'd be expected to win easily against both Lamont and the republican, but to get on the ballot he has to collect signatures WHILE running for democrat in the primary, which would probably make people mad at him. The date for signatures is the day after the primary,so he wouldn't have to turn them in before the primary, but he'd have to collect them.
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
It's always people who don't know anything at all about old LIEberman, who make the most ridiculous and very stupid claims about how "good" he is and they NEVER have lived in Conn., nor any of the surrounding states.
It could happen but do you think Joe would really run as an Independent?
One more thing, If Lieberman ran as an Independent, that would be one less seat for the Dems in the Senate and no loss to the GOP.
Go Joe go!
My guess is he would still caucus with the Dems......Can he lose the primary and still run as an independent???
****So, the Democratic Party is in a quandary. On the one hand, the base needs Senator Lieberman because if the senator decides to run as an independent, he could very well win. As the article states, a Quinnipiac poll said Lieberman would get 56% of the vote if he ran as an independent compared to Mr. Lamont's 32%. This would doom even the slightest chance the Democrats have in taking back the Senate. On the other hand, the party's leftist base already thinks Lieberman is a traitor to its anti-war manifesto and acts like it resents his even being a Democrat.
The modern day Democratic Party has morphed into an unrecognizable blob of leftist insanity. What does it say about the Democratic Party and its future if it has no room for its members who are reasonable and judicious? Maybe the more appropriate question is why would politicians who are reasonable and judicious want to stay in the Democratic Party?
I think your correct. Most of people in Connecticut are not paying attention to this. How Lamont could jump that big in the polls, just sounds fishy. Most people don't know who he is.
