A doctor and a consumer group have sued KFC in an effort to stop the chicken chain from cooking with high-fat partially hydrogenated oil.
Dr. Arthur Hoyte, a retired physician from Rockville, Md., and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, want a judge to order Kentucky Fried Chicken to use other types of cooking oils or make sure customers know about trans fat content immediately before they make a purchase.
KFC spokeswoman Laurie Schalow called the lawsuit frivolous and said the company will fight it in court. Schalow said KFC is looking at using other types of oil for cooking, but it is committed to maintaining "KFC's unique taste and flavor."
KFC provides nutrition and fat information to consumers online and in restaurants, Schalow said.
"We have for a very long time," she said.
Michael Jacobsen, the executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said Louisville-based KFC parent company Yum Brands Inc. knows that other, healthier cooking products are available.
"KFC knows this, yet it recklessly puts its customers at risk of a Kentucky Fried Coronary," Jacobsen said.

No. Stop thinking the solution to every problem is MORE RULES. In this case, for example, universal health savings accounts and abolition of HMO's and government involvement in insurance would fix your problem even more surely with a net GAIN in freedom rather than a loss.

These are man-made chemicals that your body cannot digest, and that build up in your bloodstream until they eventually kill you.
But the very act of digestion is HOW chemicals end up in the bloodstream in the first place! This statement makes no sense...I suppose I shouldn't ask you about high fructose corn syrup either.
P.S. Partially hydrogenated oils and HFCS don't increase the risk of CHD, but chronic poor eating habits often do. Lard and sucrose really aren't any better for you, no matter how natural they are.

Not for fried chicken....it needs to be cooked at a temperature that is higher than the smoke point of olive oil for best results.

Not professional. Just dedicated amateur. Do most of the cooking here and like for the results to be as good (tasty) as possible. I can get a little obsessive on my hobbies and other pursuits, so when I start to do something (long range pistol, amateur radio, bread baking, etc.)I tend to do a lot of research and practice on the subject at hand. Besides you have to eat every day so why not make it as tasty as possible?
My biggest "want" for the kitchen is a real gas fired range. Right now when cooking indoors I am stuck with an electric cook top.

I think it was Dennis Leary who said something to the effect that you could create a brand of cigarettes called "Tumors", put it in a black box with a big skull and crossbones as the logo and put "Warning: Smoking this product will kill you in a month" and people would line up around the block to pay $20 a pack for it.
Telling me that a 3 piece combo meal has 15 grams of trans fat and I'll ask for extra gravy for my mashed potatoes.
What these morons want to do is take away choice from consumers for our own good.

AMEN
Also if you got rid of health insurance consumers WOULD care what the price of procedures would be. That would force doctors to compete on price. Speaking of net gains.

Eeew! I've cooked on electric stoves. They are terrible!
I learned cooking from my Mamma Nome. She spoke broken English and wrote in phonetic Italian/English combined.
The last two years of her life, my cousin and I video taped every recipe we weren't sure how to make. She literally used hand scopes for measuring.
We are still translating her scribbled note books of recipes and transposing the video tapes for the rest of the family.

Eeew! I've cooked on electric stoves. They are terrible! I've had an electric cooktop for the past 3 years.......after 30 some years of cooking with gas it was quite an adjustment, but I actually now prefer the electric, especially for baking.
Just the other day I responded to someone on another forum who claimed that it was too expensive and too time consuming for people to eat healthy diets. I could not get over that idea. Granted, some from scratch cooking can be very time consuming, but in the long run it is far cheaper and far more nutritious than nearly anything that comes out of a box. That doesn't mean Im saying I never used pre-packaged prepared foodstuffs, just that they ar not exactly a mainstay of my family's diet.
And I prefer Popeye's or Hardee's fried chicken to KFC :)

Remind them, that is where the ideas for frozen dinners came from.
Cook more than you need when you have time, freeze the rest for when you don't have time ;)

Agree. I have noticed that recently many products list PHO but DO NOT list any transfat. Loop hole?

Cook more than you need when you have time, freeze the rest for when you don't have time ;) I do it on a regular basis. In fact my plan is to spend Sunday doing just that...well that was my plan. The remnants of Alberto are sitting right off the coast and has totally wiped out my plans for today........which included doing the summer stock up shopping. I'm just not into loading an unloading 2 months worth of food into and out of the car in the pouring rain, so the day of cooking may have to wait until Monday.

Well....unfortunatly I am paying for other peoples heart attacks. And other people are paying for your:
sport injuries
children's births
infections
etc
etc
I wish people were forced to sit in plastic bubbles and never touch another human or participate in any activities. . . .our health insurance would be cheaper.
