EBENSBURG For 31 years, U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, did much of his work behind the scenes, well away from the bright lights of the national media.
~~
On Friday, it appeared Murtha fully embraced the spotlight when he announced his intentions to run for House majority leader should the Democrats carry the House in the November election. Immediately, speculation began to arise about whether Murthas recent foray into the spotlight was a calculated strategy aimed at improving his political standing. While attending the official opening of Gamesa Inc.s Fiberblade plant in Cambria Township on Monday, Murtha dismissed the critical speculation as being off target. Murtha said he stepped up his role as a vocal leader because that is what the situation dictated.
~~
Murtha endured more criticism from weekend political television shows accusing him of making premature statement regarding future election results. But Murtha said it is time for strong forward-looking statements.

IREY TO MURTHA: HOLSTER THAT ITCHY TRIGGER FINGER
MONONGAHELA, PA Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey reacting to news that U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha has suspended his four-day-old campaign for House Majority Leader today released the following statement:
Jack Murthas decision to suspend his campaign for House Majority Leader curiously, announced by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, rather than by Mr. Murtha himself is just one more example that he is out of touch and in need of retirement from active duty in the Congress.
Just as he demonstrated that hes got an itchy trigger finger with his reckless pre-judging of U.S. Marines at Haditha acting as prosecutor, judge, and jury and convicting them of killing innocent civilians in cold blood before any charges had been filed, before any court martial had been convened, before a single Marine had been convicted this latest episode, in which he announced a campaign for House Majority Leader (an office the Democratic Party doesnt currently hold) on Friday afternoon, and then, 96 hours later, abandons the effort, leads one to wonder what in the world is going through his head.
Of course, maybe it wasnt what was going through Mr. Murthas head, but what was going through Mrs. Pelosis head to wit: In a year when she had planned to make corruption a key campaign theme, its possible she just decided that having a man whose thumbnail bio includes the words Abscam unindicted co-conspirator running for a leadership position probably wasnt such a good idea.
Perhaps its not the Marines who are overstressed, to use Mr. Murthas word. Jack Murtha has lost his way, and obviously needs a good vacation. Its time to retire him from active duty in the Congress.
USMC AND IREY DOUBLE PING
Drunk, DRUNK WITH POWER!!!!!
I liked it, except she should have said "before a single marine has had his day in court", instead of "before a single marine had been convicted".
The way she said it implies that a marine WILL be convicted, but that it just hasn't happened yet. Minor point, but that's why someone should pay me to work on their campaign. :->
Murtha was extremely eager to accuse US Marines of executing little girls. He either believes it, and is an idiot, or he is merely positioning himself to scoop up those deranged voting bloc votes.
Either way, he is not fit for public office. Pennsylvanians should be embarrassed enough to return him to private life.
LOL...That was a short lived run for a leadership position. Pelosi seemed to have cut him off at the knees.
Come November, Diana Irey will do the same and send into permanent retirement.

When is the RNC going to help this lady? Murtha is ripe for picking.
Murtha kicked off a firestorm of criticism of the Haditha marines by the main stream media. Thanks to Murtha these marines have endured days of unsubstantiated allegations as if they were facts. The more I read about it the more I think that the alleged Haditha massacre never happened. But for the questionable reporting in Time Magazine by a questionable reporter (more apt to be a leftist operative) and Murtha's big mouth (engage brain before opening mouth please), these marines may never get a fair trial or hearing. This is inexcuseable! Murtha should resign in shame before he is thrown out of office by the people of southwestern Pennsylvania.
You've got a point. I tend to look at details like that, also. She could have meant that Murtha gave them their day in MSM court and that now all that's missing is the conviction.
He's not fit to be called a Marine, either.
I picture him jumping out of the gate, frothing at the mouth and Nancy yanking him by the seat of his pants.
They won't do it for her. If she shows she can win support and raise money, they will help her.
I wish I knew the answer.
She's got near 'bout as much guts as a Marine, in my book.
I sure would be nice if they would lend a hand, but from what I see, she's doing a great job on her own. She snagged a troll today, too : ) and she hasn't even been on FR.... YET!
Bump for the Marines Murtha Massacred.
The Haditha Marines, the Hamdaniya Marines and a third group, the Ishaqi Marines who were recently cleared.
I beg your prayers for the Haditha Marines, the Hamdaniya Marines in shackles and solitary confinement also known as the Pendleton 8, the Ishaqi Marines who were recently cleared, and their families.
He's reading a script handed to him by the left. Murtha is compromised. He's always been a shady character --- back to the days of ABSCAM when he should have ended up in the Iron Bar hotel with the other congress critters. Now he is being extorted and is doing what he's told to keep his ass out of prison.
I wish I knew too. PA Republican party has a Web site, maybe if they started being contacted from people across the country that are upset with the treatment of our military by Murtha it would encourage them to help Ms. Irey.

I get a creepy feeling when I read that, especially when I know who's paying the tab.
That suggestion, along with flooding Murtha's office with toilet paper and pork rinds, are excellent ideas.
