Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.
He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.
The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.
First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.
Here are the President's comments during video conference
And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE
The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!
Thanks for the thread ohio. :) I hate I didn't get to be on with all of you yesterday. Wasn't it a great day?
You know it is just too bad about you if you don't like my response. Don't read my post and I am really not interested in your opinion everyone has one and your is really dull. Yawn!
What can I say? I'm an optimist! :)
I posted to you accidentally. My appologies. It will not happen again.
That was a great talk. So glad I got to watch it.
The headline in my local paper this morning:
"Most Iraqis view Bush visit as stunt".
It is just unbelievable how deep they've gotten in the hate Bush at all costs mantra. It's disgusting.
who support the President where he does things that we know help the country in the long term, and (at first begrudgingly, now vigorously) oppose the President where he does things harmful to the country.
The heart, soul and spirit of THIS thread is abiding support and respect for the President.
This President doesn't have it in him to do "things harmful to the country."
Therefore, comments like yours are most unwelcome here, ESPECIALLY on a thread documenting a hugely inspiring day and highlighting the decency and courage of this brave leader.
Take a look around; there are plenty of other threads where you can be "selective" in your support of our President. Go there with comments like that. Just sayin' ... here, we ZOT with regularity and ferocity.
It is an honor to bring pictures to you of the GREAT man who is leading the country we love.
Your characterization of those of us who respect the President in such ugly words is exactly why people are leaving this forum.
Now leave this thread...........permanently.
You have hit the proverbial nail on the head here, STARWISE.
The people who attack him in such a manner as this disruptor did on this thread are fundamentally IGNORANT of who the President is.
I started to weep as I posted the pictures, and suddenly I was overwhelmed with the emotion of what a great man God has chosen to lead us, and how President Bush has suffered because he has chosen 'the road less travel'd by.'
He has led, and not followed polls or focus group findings, and he has taken more abuse than any President in history other than Abraham Lincoln.
My admiration for him has never been greater.
(But you can give the President the credit for it.....)
Yesterday's great day continues today..... :)
You can see the emotion in both of them as the President is practically running to meet Maliki.
It's a great photo.
Our President IS awesome!
It may well be in the top five Doses, daybreak...........but once again, it's the PRESIDENT who made it so!
CHENEY/RICE...........that'll tweak em GOOD. :)
I was just showing off his shirt! :)
Yes, he is a good man.
I keep remembering his first inaugural speech:
The Angel in the Whirlwind.
How true that was!
What a whirlwind we've been through since Jan 2001!
And how blessed we are to have him.
Praise the Lord that it is HE who is 'directing this storm.'
